Mirza Delibasic "Kindje" (9.1.1954. - 8.12.2001.)

It's been fifteen years since the best Bosnian player and FIBA Hall of Fame member, Mirza DELIBASIC
passed away. En route to a place among the World's greatest players, Kindje has won everything there was to win
including Olympic gold medal in 1980, World Championship in 1978 and European Championship three times (1975, '77, '79).

In 1979 Mirza Delibasic led BC "Bosna", Sarajevo to winning the Euroleague (European Champions' Cup back then) as well as two Yugoslavian championships in 1978 and 1980 along with two National Cups. During 1977/78 season Mirza Delibasic has averaged 33.7 points per game in Europe's strongest league.

After being named the best player of the former SFRJ (i.e. SFR Yugoslavia) in 1980, Mirza Delibasic moved to Real Madrid,
Spain. He was the first non-American foreign player brought by mighty Real. During his time in Real, 'Kindje' won
the Intercontinental Cup (i.e. World club's championship) and Spanish championship. Standing tall at 197cm Delibasic has successfully played both SG and PG positions. In the Spanish final game vs. Barcelona in 1982 he led Real to the title by playing point guard while scoring 28 points and dishing out 15 assists.

Mirza Delibasic was born and grew up in a Tuzla neighborhood nearby tennis courts. Before switching to basketball, Kindje had played tennis. He was Bosnian U14 champion in 1967 and 1968. The street in downtown Tuzla where he grew up is named after him as well as a park and sports arena at Skenderija in Sarajevo.

Due to health issues, Mirza Delibasic had to quit playing basketball too early, at age of 29. By that time he had already achieved more than most others who have played much longer.

After being named the best Bosnian athlete of the 20th Century, Mirza Delibasic was inducted into the FIBA European Hall of Fame in 2007. Mirza Delibasic
