   Valbona, the team who broke the tradition
TIRANE - Valbona from Tropoja is new champion of Albania in basketball for men , for the first time in history a club from northeastern Albania wins this title after the dominance by the teams from Tirana. The Tropoja team directed by the coach Adem Muhametaj and financed from Avni Ponari, president of the company "Sigal" have succed to win in three final matches against the former champion SK Tirana. In the squad are players from Tropoja but there are also 4 players from Shkodra: Bilali,Vorfa, Halili and Llazani. Basketball is one of most traditional sports in Tropoja. For more than 15 years, the team has succesfuly played against the best clubs in Albania. All the matches untill 1997 were played in stadium for hand sports in Tropoja. From this date Valbona played all the matches in Tirana. Financed by "SIGAL" a company of insurance, the team of Valbona was able to buy new players like Bilali (from Kosovo), or other players from Vllaznia who was in economic crise.  Even if Valbona was Valbona the best squad in regular championchip before play off. The coach Muhametaj says that was as a result that we had a new team, the new players needed some time to now the game of squad. Than we maked a strategy for the team to be in best form when the play off begins.

A champion without home court
Valbona is a champion without a "home".
The Palace of Sports in Bajram Curri, is builded but is not yet finished. Shaban Dusha the chief of sports club Valbona, says "we need 200.000 euros to finish the palace of sports". He says that the club have asked for money from the Minystry of Sports but they didn't get any positive answer. With the title of champion there is no sens to be without "home"

The team of Valbona played all the matches of the championchip in Tirana . All the players lived in Tirana . For 4 "shkodrans" (Bilali, Vorfa, Halili and Llazani) the club rented one house. And the other players lived in their homes in the capital city.

Valbona have win last night in third match of play off against Tirana with the result 107-87 and with that is the new champion of Albania. White&Blue boys have gived last night the title to the team of Valbona. A great succes for the team of Valbona directed by the head coach Adem Mustafaj. Biberaj, Bilali, Vorfa, Shahmani, Halili, Llazani e Mustafaj, but also Ismailaj, Memiaj, Lamnicaj e Metaliaj, are the names who gived to Valbona the long time waited title. This succes is dedicated to the fans of Tropoja who were in big number last night in "Asllan Rusi". Valbona showed a good colective game. The best player of the night was Vorfa with 34 points. First period was started well by Valbona, who made a advantage 17-9. But than Tirana first makes the result equal 19-19 and than makes the advantage 31-25. In second period Valbona cames back in the game ends the period with the result 53-50. In third period Valbona controles the match all the time by keeping the advantage in 10-12 points. Tirana started well the fourth period with 6 points of Shima 76-82. But a 3-point score by Halili stoped Tirana to make something more. Bilali and Vorfa, in last minutes maked a "show" with spectacular actions and scores for the result 107-87 for Valbona. After the end of the game, another "show", this time it cames from the Albanian Basketball Association who gived to the new champion the trophey.
