Croatia have edged closer to the Mediterranean Games title. They cruised past Albania at the quarterfinal stage today in Pescara. Croatia were able to come from behind to knock out pesky Albania. Damir Rancic (197-G-83) fired 19 points, collected 5 boards and issued 4 assists for Croatia.

Croatia have edged closer to the Mediterranean Games title. They cruised past Albania at the quarterfinal stage today in Pescara. Croatia were able to come from behind to knock out pesky Albania. Damir Rancic (197-G-83) fired 19 points, collected 5 boards and issued 4 assists for Croatia. Albania stormed into the game scoring 27 points in the opening quarter and building a 4-point advantage at the first intermission. But Croatia took over in the second stanza and turned a 4-point deficit into a 7-point lead at halftime. Croatia persisted and rallied to a 14-point advantage with one quarter to go. Albania collapsed defensively in the final stanza allowing their opponents to notch 28 points as Croatia coasted to the win. Rok Stipcevic (188-G-86) had 12 points for the winners. Luksa Andric (210-C/F-85) added 10 points for Croatia. Franko Bushati (188-G-85) replied with 21 points, 6 assists and 4 boards for Albania. Ersid Ljuca (208-C-81) delivered 18 points in the loss. Croatia outrebounded Albania 33:20 and forced those to 17 turnovers. The winner sank 55% from the field, while holding Albania to 44%.

The physical game inside the paint helped Albania trim the margin to 10 points heading into the fourth term. But Montenegro kept it cool and ensured a comfortable victory in the final period.
