Best performance of Albanian players abroad in last week games - Mar 5, 2012

We bring you last week''s top performances from Albanian players who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. The best performed Albanian player this week who plays abroad is an international guard Franko Bushati (188-85), who plays in the Italian Lega2 (second division). Bushati could not help Centrale Latte (11-10) to beat Biancoblu BO. It was not his best game last Sunday. Bushati recorded only 2 points in 15 minutes. Centrale del Latte Brescia (#6) was defeated 72-76 on the road by the lower-ranked (#12) Biancoblu BO. It was Centrale Latte''s third consecutive loss in a row. This year Bushati averages: 7.7ppg, 3.1rpg, 1.5apg, 1.6spg, 2FGP: 54.4%, 3FGP: 31.5% and FT: 75.4% in the 21 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Albanian and Italian. Bushati is currently a member of the senior Albanian National Team.


There are also other players who performed very well, but have never been selected to any national team and who carry Albanian passport:

   #1. Ljeko Nicaj (210-C-87) contributed to a KK Podgorica''s victory against the tenth-ranked Jedinstvo 88-79 in the Montenegrin 1A last Sunday. He had a double-double by scoring 17 points and getting 17 rebounds. Nicaj also added 17 rebounds and 6 blocks in 36 minutes. KK Podgorica (7-11) is placed seventh in the 1A. His team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And that game will be critical. It''s Nicaj''s first season with the team. Nicaj is currently ninth on the list of top scorers and also on the list of best rebounders (first place). He has very impressive stats this year: 16.1ppg, 8.5rpg and 2.4bpg in the 15 games he played so far. Nicaj has a dual citizenship: Albanian and Montenegrin.

   #2. Nderim Pelaj (179-G-88), who plays in the German ProB (third division) could not help Dorsten (14-10) to beat USC Leipzig despite his very good performance on Saturday. He recorded 14 points. But the sixth-placed BG Dorsten (14-10) was edged 82-85 on the road by the higher-ranked (#3) USC Leipzig in the Group North. It was Dorsten''s first loss after three consecutive victories. It''s Pelaj''s eighth season with the team. Pelaj has relatively good stats this season: 11.8ppg, 1.5rpg and 1.4apg. He is another player who holds two passports: Albanian and German.

   #3. Grigoris Pappas (205-C/F-91) was not able to help Panerythraikos (9-12) in their game against AEK in the Greek A2 (second division). His contribution was not very remarkable in Saturday''s game. Pappas scored only 2 points. Panerythraikos AS (#12) was badly defeated 71-88 in Athens by the much higher-ranked (#3) AEK. This season Pappas averages just 1.0ppg. He has both Albanian and Greek nationalities. Pappas previously played for the Greek National Team and is probably not eligible to play for the Albanian team.

Erjon Kastrati (197-F/G-94) plays for Union Olimpija in the Slovenian Telemach League
Mike Moten (203-C-71) plays for s Oliver Baskets in the German BBL
Klaudio Ndoja (200-G/F-85) plays for Enel Brindisi in the Italian Lega2
Gerti Shima (205-F/C-86) plays for Capljina Lasta in the Bosnia and Herzegovina D1
Greg Butler (C-66) plays for Ovarense in the Portuguese LPB
Besnik Bekteshi (188-G-93) plays for EnBW Ludwigsburg in the German BBL
Mergin Sina (198-F-67) plays for CAB Madeira in the Portuguese LPB
Agi Imbeza (212-C-81) plays for Marousi in the Greek A1
Shkelzen Bekteshi (185-G-91) plays for Kirchheim Knights in the German ProA
Dennis Hatzi (203-F-87) plays for Panelefsiniakos in the Greek A2
Giannis Konomis (205-F/C-86) plays for Amyntas Dafnis in the Greek A2

Albania may once again have a team in BIBL - 20 days ago

The Sports Director of the competition - Mr. Shay Shtriks, spoke with the president of Albanian federation - Mr. Avni Ponari, and they discussed this option. There is a strong possibility that Albania will have once again a team in SIGAL-UNIQA Balkan League from the next season. Teuta - Vllaznia 76-102 Vllaznia repeated as Superliga champions. They knocked down Teuta on the road in the fourth game of the championship series to clinch the third straight title. The success also marked the ninth overall Superliga trophy for Vllaznia. The game without a history. Vllaznia Shkodra led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They built a 32:18 lead at the first break. Superliga Round 3 of Finals. Vllaznia step closer to defending the title - 26 days ago

Vllaznia - Teuta 84-46 Vllaznia celebrated the second victory in the Superliga championship series. They eased past Teuta at home court to take 2-1 lead in the series. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 6-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 84-46.
