Albania grabbed the win over Malta at the Mediterranean Games in Pescara 73:69. Albania built a crucial lead in the first three quarters and managed to survive a fierce comeback effort from Malta in the final frame to ensure the first win at the tournament. Turkey was the favorite of the game and proved their superiority with 21:14 after the opening quarter. Turkey added another 26-13 in the second period to take 47:27 at the halftime. In order not to slow down Turkey produced 25-19 and then had 17-14 in the last period.
Turkey showed 44% from the filed and Albania had 38%. Turkey was also better in the percentage from the arc as they 29 over 27. Nazli Guler (182-F-82, agency: 1x1 Sports) nailed 25 points to lead all the winners. Dila Askin (170-G-87) posted 16, while Yasemin Dalgalar (183-F-88) Begum netted 15. Migena Plasa (185-C-76) produced 20 points in the losing effort and Cani Aida scored 11.

They arrived at the major break up by 5 points. Albania went off locker room firing from all guns as they raced in front. They ensured a 14-point buffer before the final term. Rebecca Thoresen (178-F-78) orchestrated Maltas comeback rally but it went fruitless as Albania escaped with a narrow victory at the end. Brikena Cakici (176-G-80) knocked down 23 points to lead Albania. Rezarta Hoxhaj (-82) added 19 points and 9 rebounds in the winning effort. Rebecca Thoresen replied with game-high 31 points and 5 boards for Malta. Josephine Grima (190-C-84) netted 20 points in defeat. Malta will face Turkey tomorrow.
