Superliga Round 17: Tirana defeat Flamutari in the closest game of the week - Mar 27, 2017

The most exciting game of round 17 in the Superliga took place in Tirana. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 3rd placed Flamutari (12-3) to second ranked Tirana (14-1) 67-66 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Flamutari. The hosts trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 18-14 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Tirana keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Goga. Defending champion Flamutari keeps the third place with three games lost.
Superliga top team - Goga (14-1) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed seventh ranked Elbasani (4-11) in Durres 113-56. Goga have an impressive series of ten victories in a row. They maintain first place with 14-1 record, which they share with Tirana. Elbasani lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with 11 games lost.
Bottom-ranked Kamza Basket (0-16) is still winless. This time they lost on the road their 16th consecutive match to sixth ranked Skenderbeu (6-9) 81-33 on Sunday evening. Skenderbeu maintains sixth place with 6-9 record. Kamza Basket lost their sixteenth game in a row. They still close the standings.
The game in Fier supposed to be also worth to mention about. Fifth ranked Studenti (8-7) played at the court of 8th ranked Apolonia (2-13). Studenti smashed Apolonia 82-44. Studenti moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Vllaznia. Newly promoted Apolonia keeps the eighth position with 13 games lost.

Tirana - Flamutari 67-66

Apolonia - Studenti 44-82

The game in Fier supposed to be also worth to mention about. Fifth ranked Studenti (8-7) played at the court of 8th ranked Apolonia (2-13). Studenti smashed Apolonia 82-44. The game was mostly controlled by Studenti. Apolonia was better in fourth quarter 16-9. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Apolonia to just 6 points in first quarter. Studenti moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Vllaznia. Newly promoted Apolonia keeps the eighth position with 13 games lost.

Goga - Elbasani 113-56

They dominated on the defensive end, holding Kamza Basket to just 3 points in first quarter and to 11 points in first half. Skenderbeu maintains sixth place with 6-9 record. Kamza Basket lost their sixteenth game in a row. They still close the standings.

Suduva-Mantinga Marijampole (LMKL) inked 25-year old American guard Stephanie Gardner (170-92, college: ODU). She played most recently at Goga in Albanian Superliga. Gardner managed to play in three leagues in two countries last year (!!!). She helped them to end the regular season as a second best team in the league. They also advanced to the league semifinals.
