Franko Bushati selected the top Albanian playing abroad in last week's games - May 8, 2017

We bring you last week's top performances from Albanians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is former international shooting guard Franko Bushati (189-85, agency: Two Points, currently plays in Italy). Bushati was the major contributor in Brescia's victory against the closely-ranked Auxilium TO (13-17) 96-89 in the Italian Serie A last Sunday. He scored 18 points and added 3 assists. Germani Basket Brescia (13-17) is placed tenth in the Serie A. The Regular Season already ended. This season Bushati averages: 3.6ppg, 1.4rpg, 2FGP: 47.8%, 3FGP: 22.4% and FT: 60.6%. He has a dual citizenship: Albanian and Italian. Bushati played for the Albanian senior national team five years ago.

   #2. Second place goes to former international swingman Klaudio Ndoja (201-85, currently plays in Italy). He led Virtus Bologna to an easy victory against the seventh-ranked Novipiu Casale (16-14) 70-54 in the Italian Serie A2 (second division) on Sunday night. Ndoja recorded 14 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in 33 minutes. Virtus Segafredo Bologna (21-9) is placed first in East group. It's Ndoja's first season with the team. This year his overall stats are: 9.9ppg, 4.7rpg, 1.1spg, 2FGP: 56.8%(25-44), 3FGP: 42.6% and FT: 67.7% in 15 games he played so far. Ndoja is another player who holds two passports: Albanian and Italian. He played for the Albanian national team in 2012.

   #3. The Albanian player who performed third best last week abroad was an experienced international point guard Rashaun Broadus (183-84, agency: Octagon Europe, college: BYU, currently plays in Germany). Broadus could not help SC Rasta Vechta (2-30) in their last game on Monday. Despite his good performance SC Rasta Vechta was badly defeated 93-74 on the road by the higher-ranked Eisbaeren Bremerhaven (#12). Broadus recorded 11 points and added 3 passes. The Regular Season already ended. Broadus' total stats this season are: 8.6ppg, 1.8rpg, 4.3apg, 1.3spg, 2FGP: 51.3%, 3FGP: 27.7% and FT: 66.7%. He is a naturalized American. Broadus is also a member of the Albanian senior national team. Strangely he has never played in Albania.

   #4. Small forward Celis Taflaj (201-98, currently plays in Italy) contributed to a Viola RC's victory against the 14th-ranked Chieti (10-20) 98-84 in the Italian Serie A2 (second division) last Sunday. Taflaj recorded 8 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 28 minutes. Berme Viola Basket Reggio Calabriais placed tenth in West group. This year Taflaj's total stats are: 1.6ppg and 1.7rpg in 25 games. He is also Albanian national team player.


One more player who has never been selected to any of national teams, but has Albanian passport:

   #1. Erjon Kastrati (198-SG-94, currently plays in Slovenia) could not help Krka (8-2) in their last game. Despite his very good performance the first-placed Krka (8-2) lost 81-85 at home to the lower-ranked (#4) Un.Olimpija in the Places 1-6 group. Kastrati was the top scorer with 17 points. He also added 9 rebounds in 29 minutes. It was Krka's first loss after six consecutive victories. It's Kastrati's fifth season with the team. This year Kastrati averages: 9.2ppg, 3.9rpg and 1.2apg in 26 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Kosovan and Albanian.

Partizani and Teuta win the 2017/18 openers in Albania. Teuta overcame Vllaznia 82-72 with a strong 30-19 start. Partizani edged Kamza Basket 70-65. Bruno Daliu (206-C-85, college: Tusculum) top-scored for the winners with 23 points and Algert Gjonaj (198-SF-87) posted 15. Shkelzen Llazani(188-G-83) ended up with 17 points in the losing effort and Vaqari poured in 14.   [read more]
