RA and NKR Basketball Federations to establish active cooperation - May 22, 2009

Basketball Federations of Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh Republic plan to establish an active cooperation in near future. In that connection, Hrachya Rostomyan, Armenian Basketball Federation President, paid an official visit to Stepanakert to meet newly-elected President of NKR Basketball Federation Vazgen Mikayelyan, ABF Press Service reported to PanARMENIAN.Net.

RA and NKR Basketball Federations presidents discussed a number of organizational issues. Hrachya Rostomyan expressed his willingness to contribute to the development of basketball of in Nagorno Karabakh.

In 2009 NKR basketball men's and women's teams will participate in RA Adult and Junior Championships.

Basketball seminar to host NKR coaches and umpires will be organized by ABF in Stepanakert in near future. ABF, KBF and NKR Sports Committee scheduled a Youth Basketball Championship to be held in Armenia this summer.

Niksa Bavcevic has been appointed the head coach of the Armenian National Team. The Croatian specialist has spent two last seasons in Switzerland. He has been working with BBC Monthey. Niksa Bavcevic led the team to Swiss League Cup titles in 2016 and 2017. He used to work in Romania, Croatia, Belgium before. Divina Seguros Juventut Badalona (Liga Endesa) signed 30-year old American (has also Armenian passport) point guard Terry Smith (185-86, college: Mercyhurst). He already started the season at Urartu Yerevan in Russian Superleague 1. In 9 games he had very impressive stats: 15.9ppg, 2.3rpg, 2.2apg and 1.2spg this season.
