Armenia recorded the first win at the U16 European Championship in Division B. They overwhelm Slovakia for 1-1 record in Group C. Andrey Konstantinov (95) stepped up with 18 points and 15 rebounds for the winners. Slovakia fell at 0-2 record after the loss. Slovakia ensured the better start. They posted a 19:14 lead at the first break. But Armenia slowly took over. They limited Slovakia to just 10 points in the second frame to pull ahead 30:29. Armenia stepped on the gas in the third term. They exploded with 24 points to clear off to a 10-point distance with one quarter remaining. Armenia stayed in charge throughout the fourth period posting a well-deserved win at the end. Kirill Zakharchuk (95) accounted for 13 points, while Sergey Polukhin (95) added 11 points and 11 rebounds in the win. Vladimir Nemcok (170-G-95) responded with 11 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists for Slovakia. Belavy provided 9 points in the loss.

Zareh Zargaryan (198-F-89), formerly of CSU Dominguez Hills, stated that Its truly an honor to be able to play for Armenia. I have been dreaming of this since my childhood days. Team Armenia coach Carl Bardakian echoed the sentiments in saying that Our coaching staff and players are fully aware of the significance and responsibility of competing under the tri-colored flag of Armenia. The House of Armenia in Glendale, California, USA, celebrated and officially introduced the Armenian Mens National Basketball team to the community and media this week.
The team, comprised of both Armenian-American, Armenian national and international athletes, is led by Head Coach Carl Bardakian, a Los Angeles based and well-experienced basketball coach.
The mens team is said to be looking forward to achieving the same success which the Armenian Womens National Basketball team had in 2011, by winning the silver medal in the European Championship, for which purpose it is currently accepting offers for sponsorships.
Asbarez.com reports that the official introduction of the National Team on Wednesday was witnessed by some prominent athletes of the present and past, including Soviet-Armenian soccer player Sergei Bondarenko (Ararat 73), Armenian-American professional boxer Vanes Norik Martirosyan and others.

Carl Bardakian was named new head coach of Armenian National Team. The specialist who resides in the USA will guide Armenia at 2012 EuroBasket in Division C. Armenia will face Scotland, Wales, Modlova, Andorra, Gibraltar and hosting San Marino. The event is scheduled for July 2-7. Carl Bardakian was also assistant coach at Cleveland State University and Chaffey College. Zarik Isajane and Vardan Khatchatrian will be joining Bardakian as assistant coaches. Carl Bardakian was born and raised in New York. His impressive resume also includes working as international scout for both Armenian Womens National Team and Hatis Yerevan.
