Hatis Yerevan grabbed valuable victory against Chevakata making the first step forward to second stage of EuroCup 2009/10. Maurita Reid (173-G-85, college: Miami, FL) and Bojana Vulic (191-C-84) were the key players in this victory scoring 26 and 25 points respectively. Hatis Yerevan grabbed valuable victory against Chevakata making the first step forward to second stage of EuroCup 2009/10. Maurita Reid (173-G-85, college: Miami, FL) and Bojana Vulic (191-C-84) were the key players in this victory scoring 26 and 25 points respectively. Reid handed out 7 assists beside that, while Vulic pulled down 12 rebounds. Ganna Zarytska (182-F-86, agency: Data Plus Group) also had very important role collecting 21 points and 11 boards. Chevekata (0-2) had Anastasia Pimenova (180-F-81) on fire with 36 pts. It was a game with not so brilliant defenses by both teams. Hatis Yerevan and Chevekata players played very exciting game and the hosts came out victorious thanks to nice last 30 seconds. Before, that Hatis Yeravan had 27-21 lead in the first quarter and later jumped to 54-46 until the half time. After the breather, visitors woke up. Thanks to Anastasia Pimenova, they managed to close the gap to 4 points after 30 minutes of play. Than, at the beginning of the last period Pimenova brought her team 75-76 lead. The hosts reacted quickly jumping to 83-76. In the finish, Maurita Reid and Ganna Zarytska were calm from the free throw line lifting their team to valuable 103-99 win. In the next round, Hatis Yerevan will meet Besiktas on the road. Chevakata will take on Athinaikos in Greece.

Athinaikos had wonderful beginning of EuroCup 2009/10 regular season. The Greek squad totally destroyed Hatis Yerevan celebrating huge 105-54 home win. Candice Wiggins (180-G-87, college: Stanford) was the leading player in this victory with 26 points and 5 rebounds. LaToya Davis (186-F/C-84, college: Texas Tech), Gintare Petronyte (196-C-89) and Nicole Soulis (188-F-85, college: Wisc.-Green Bay) followed her scoring 12 points each

Athinaikos - Hatis Yerevan 105-54
Athinaikos had wonderful beginning of EuroCup 2009/10 regular season. The Greek squad totally destroyed Hatis Yerevan celebrating huge 105-54 home win. Candice Wiggins (180-G-87, college: Stanford) was the leading player in this victory with 26 points and 5 rebounds. LaToya Davis (186-F/C-84, college: Texas Tech), Gintare Petronyte (196-C-89) and Nicole Soulis (188-F-85, college: Wisc.-Green Bay) followed her scoring 12 points each. In the loosing squad, Anna Pokoiova (188-F-87, agency: Promotex) delivered 15 pts. Both teams are placed to Preliminary Group E. There are also Chevakata and Basiktas in the same pool, and the Turkish team celebrated yesterday in Russia 62-80. There is not much to say about this game. Athinaikos was better team from the opening tip-off and continued in the same manner until the end. After ten minutes of play, the hosts were already up 26-12. Until the half time they were even better jumping to plus 29. It was 54-25 HT score. Only in third quarter Hatis Yerevan was able to resist and this period finished 18-17. In the last ten minutes Candice Wiggins and her teammates once again shined and actually it was their best quarter yesterday (33-12). In the end, huge 105-54 win for the Greek team, who will for sure have very important role in this seasons edition of EuroCup.

Basketball teams-participants in the championships of Armenia among men and women have been selected.As compared with last year, the number of men teams has increased up to seven. Two new teams have been included on the list of participants: Vanadzor and Artik teams. Fima will not take part in the tournament this year.

Five women teams will take part in the championship. Only one change has been made in the list of the participants as compared with last year i.e. Ararat has left the championship. A second team from Gyumri of the same name compensated the loss in number.
Armenian Basketball Federation press-service told PanARMENIAN.Net, the championships will start in April, but the exact dates havent been set yet.
