U18 PORTUGAL - U18 AUSTRIA 60-45

Portugal registered 60-45 win against Austria in Day One of U18 EuroBasket Division B in Strumica. Portugal had amazing first half limiting its rival to just 14 points for 20 minutes. They drained 32 at the other side and jumped to plus 23 with ten minutes remaining. Austria finally showed some of their talent in the last quarter, but it was too late. Both teams are placed to Preliminary Group A, together with Israel and Hungary. Two teams will advance to the next stage. Laura Ferreira (177-G-95) led Portugal with 14 points. Ines Viana (164-PG-94), Josephine Filipe (175-G/F-95), Joana Canastra (173-SG-94) and Joana Soeiro (170-PG-95) helped their team with 7 points each. In Austria, Pia Jurhar (183-PF-95) collected 9 points and 7 rebounds. Anja Fuchs-Robetin (180-SG-96) also scored 9 points and Sigrid Koizar (173-PG-95) stopped to 6. On Saturday, Portugal will meet Hungary. Austria will play against Israel and both teams look for the first win in Strumica.

Stella Popp joins Basket Flames - 18 hours ago

Basket Flames Vienna (ASWBL) added to their roster 15-year old small forward Stella Popp (176-1). Popp represented Austria at the European Championships U16 Division B in Oradea (Romania) this year. Her stats at that event were 6 games: 6.3ppg, 4.2rpg, 1.2apg, 1.5spg, FGP: 36.8%, 3PT: 18.2%, FT: 50.0%. Popp is a very experienced player. Flying Foxes Post SV Wien (ASWBL) landed Slovakian coach Stanislav Onuska. He coached most recently at SBK Samorin in Slovakian Extraliga. Among other achievements Onuska coached in the final of Slovakian Extraliga in 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2013. He has coached also professionally in Slovakia for MBK Ruzomberok.
