Croatia clinched the fourth consecutive win in Group C of 2013 EuroBasket Qualifying Round. They defeated Austria on the road tonight. Bojan Bogdanovic (203-SG-89) accounted for 19 points to pace the winners. Austria fell at 1-3 record after the loss.
Austria unexpectedly grabbed an early lead. The hosts secured a 23:20 lead after ten minutes. But Croatia picked up the slack and denied the deficit in the second quarter. The visitors piled up a 44:35 halftime lead. Austria did not surrender as they Rasid Mahalbasic (208-C-90) drew things level at 50 midway through the third period. But Croatia were able to eke out a 60:58 advantage after three quarters of action. Maresch knotted things up at 64 early in the fourth frame. Croatia needed 9:0 run to clear off. They posted a 77:68 advantage. Austria did not recover allowing Croatia to escape with a tough victory. Roko-Leni Ukic (196-PG-84) netted 14 points, issued 7 assists and grabbed 4 boards, while Pavle Marcinkovic (197-G/F-89) added 11 points for the winners. Rasid Mahalbasic replied with 21 points for Austria. Jason Detrick (195-SF-80, agency: Court Side, college: Oklahoma) and Davor Lamesic (205-PF-83, agency: Interperformances) had 11 points each in the loss.

Villach Raiders (2.Bundesliga) re-signed experienced 36-year old Slovenian forward Simon Finzgar (196-80). He played there last season. He helped them to make it to the semifinals. A very good season in his career as he was selected to Eurobasket.com All-Austrian 2.Bundesliga Honorable Mention. Gunners Captain Jason Johnson retires from ABL Basketball - 2 days ago

Austrian champion and cup winner Redwell Gunners Oberwart announced that their captain Jason Johnson (202-F/C-77, college: Tennessee St.) is retiring from ABL Basketball at age 39. Johnson came to to Oberwart in 2000 and has played there ever since. Johnson appeared in 550 ABL games throughout his career. BSC Raiffeisen Furstenfeld Panthers (A Bundesliga) inked 20-year old power forward Luka Gaspar (198-96). He has played for the last five years at UBC Magnofit Gussing Knights in ABL where in 13 games he averaged 1.3ppg. Gaspar helped them to make it to the final after they ended regular season as second best team.
