In the traditional season opening game, the ABL Supercup, champion Xion Dukes Klosterneuburg faced cupholder Allianz Swans Gmunden. The Dukes clinched their first Supercup title in franchise history with a 91:82 win by owerpowering the Swans with 35:19 under the boards. Since the Supercup is being played the Swans had won 7 out of ten trophies. This time it didn't work out. Swans new addition point guard Joshua Brown poured in with 35 points but and Mike Oppland (204-F-84, college: Valparaiso) scored 11 points in defeat while the Dukes inside duo Ramiz Suljanovic (205-F/C-79) scored 19 and power forward Jason Chappell (208-F/C-83, college: Wisconsin), who won the MVP trophy, added 18. Prior to the game Dukes legend Damir Hamidovic was officially honored for his 22 two years as a Duke being their captain for most of that time. Hamidovic retired this summer after winning a championship with the Dukes last season.
