American Maurice Pearson (206-F/C-89) put on an amazing game in the last round for Furstenfeld and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 7. The 23-year old power forward had a double-double of 30 points and nineteen rebounds, while his team edged out St.Polten (#10, 1-5) 82-80. The game was not the highest importance and did not have significant influence on the top of the standings. Furstenfeld maintains the 9th position in Austrian A Bundesliga. Furstenfeld is rather a weak team placed in lower part in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 2-4 record. Pearson turned to be Furstenfeld's top player in his first season with the team. Georgetown College graduate has very impressive stats this year. Pearson. Pearson is in league's top in points (2nd best: 23.8ppg) and averages solid 65.1% FGP.
The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 28-year old former international center Martin Kohlmaier (218-C-84) of St.Polten. Kohlmaier impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 31 points and 13 rebounds. Bad luck as St.Polten was edged by slightly higher-ranked Furstenfeld (#9, 2-4) 82-80. The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. St.Polten keeps 10th position. 5 lost games are too many comparing to just one victory St.Polten managed to get this year. Kohlmaier is a newcomer at St.Polten and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 18.0ppg (#9). He also registered 7.8 boards per game.
The third best performed player last round was American guard Deteri Mayes (189-G-74, agency: Court Side) of Kapfenberg (#6). Mayes got into 30-points club by scoring 35 points in the last round. Despite Mayes' great performance Kapfenberg lost 93-98 to Gmunden (3-3). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. The last thing Kapfenberg needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 3 victories and 3 lost games. Mayes has a very solid season. In 6 games in Austria he scored 11.2ppg. Deteri Mayes has also Austrian passport and can play in the league with a status of domestic player.
