Austrian A Bundesliga round 23 best performance: Samo Grum - Feb 23, 2013

Samo Grum
Slovenian swingman Samo Grum (193-G/F-79) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Furstenfeld, receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 23.
The 33-year old player was the main contributor (40 pointsfour assists) to his team's victory, helping them to beat St.Polten (#10, 3-18) 95-88. The game rather meaningless between the teams, which do not have any influence on the top of the standings. Furstenfeld maintains the 9th position in Austrian A Bundesliga. Furstenfeld is rather a weak team placed in lower part in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 7-14 record. In the team's last game Grum had a remarkable 55.6% from 2-point range and got five three-pointers out of 8 attempts. He turned to be Furstenfeld's top player in his first season with the team. Samo Grum has solid league stats. He is in league's top in points (2nd best: 20.4ppg) and averages impressive 51.3% FGP.

The second best player in last round's games was young British Ryan Richards (212-C/F-91, agency: Interperformances) of league's leader BC Vienna. Richards had a very good evening with a double-double of 33 points and 10 rebounds. Bad luck as BC Vienna was edged by the lower-ranked Gussing (#6, 12-9) 83-79. BC Vienna managed to keep the same 1st spot in the standings. His team has currently 16-5 record. Richards is one of the most experienced players at BC Vienna and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.

Third on the list of top players last round was former international forward Martin Speiser (202-F-83) of St.Polten (#10). Speiser got into 30-points club by scoring 33 points in the last round. He went also for twelve rebounds . Despite Speiser's great performance St.Polten lost 88-95 to slightly higher-ranked Furstenfeld (#9, 7-14). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. St.Polten can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 3-18 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Speiser he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Speiser has individually a great season in Austria. After 19 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 6.7rpg (7th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Mark Sanchez (201-F-87) of Kapfenberg - 23 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists
5. Cor-J Cox (195-F/G-90) of Furstenfeld - 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists
6. Seamus Boxley (201-F-82) of Oberwart - 26 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists
7. Michael Dale (197-G/F-84) of UBSC Graz - 24 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists
8. Fabricio Vay (206-F-86) of Arkadia - 27 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists
9. Matias Bortolin (205-C-93) of Arkadia - 19 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists
10. Dan Oppland (203-F-84) of Gmunden - 20 points and 10 rebounds

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
