ASWBL Round 20: Basket Flames edge BK Duchess by two points - Jan 17, 2016

The most exciting game of round 20 in the ASWBL took place in Klosterneuburg. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 4th ranked BK Duchess (6-6) to third ranked Basket Flames (9-3) 51-49 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of BK Duchess. BK Duchess were trailing by 2 points at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 21-16 charge of Basket Flames, which allowed them to win the game. They dominated on the defensive end, holding BK Duchess to just 4 points in first quarter. Basket Flames moved-up to second place. BK Duchess at the other side keep the fourth position with six games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Undefeated leader Flying Foxes delivered the thirteenth consecutive victory. This time they beat 5th ranked Nitra (5-7) 70-55. Undefeated Flying Foxes (13-0) have an impressive 13-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with a perfect record of 13 victories in a row. Newly promoted Nitra keeps the fifth place with seven games lost. Flying Foxes will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Nitra will play at home against Zvolen (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Bottom-ranked ATUS Gratkorn (0-12) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 83-34 loss to seventh ranked UBI Graz (4-9) in Gratkorn on Saturday evening. UBI Graz moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Zvolen. Newly promoted ATUS Gratkorn still closes the standings with 12 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

In the last game of round 20 Zvolen was defeated by BK Petrzalka in a road game 55-45.

BK Duchess - Basket Flames 49-51

BK Petrzalka - Zvolen 55-45

There was no surprise when 6th ranked Zvolen (4-9) was defeated on the road by third ranked BK Petrzalka (9-4) 55-45 on Saturday. BK Petrzalka maintains third position with 9-4 record having four points less than leader Flying Foxes. Zvolen lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with nine games lost. They share the position with UBI Graz. BK Petrzalka will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Zvolen will play against Nitra (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

LFB newcomer Femeni Sant Adria tabbed 29-year old American point guard Andrea Riley (165-62kg-88, college: Oklahoma State). She played most recently at Flying Foxes in Austrian AWBL. In 7 Central Europe Women League games she was the best scorer with impressive 24.9ppg and recorded 4.7rpg, 5.3apg (leader !!!) and 3.9spg (leader !!!) last season.
