AWBL Round 6: Derby game ends with Flying Foxes' defeat of BC Vienna - Nov 3, 2016

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Wien: Flying Foxes (#1) and BC Vienna (#4). Flying Foxes (6-0) smashed visiting BC Vienna (2-4) by 71 points 106-35. The game without a history. Flying Foxes led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding BC Vienna to just 4 points in fourth quarter and to 9 points in second half. Undefeated Flying Foxes have an impressive six-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 6-0 record. BC Vienna lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the fourth place with four games lost. Flying Foxes are looking forward to face bottom-ranked ATUS Gratkorn (#6) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. BC Vienna will play against UBI Graz and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Bottom-ranked ATUS Gratkorn is still unable to win any game. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they lost on the road their sixth consecutive match to second ranked Basket Flames (5-1) 78-40. Basket Flames maintains second position with 5-1 record behind leader Flying Foxes. ATUS Gratkorn at the other side still closes the standings with six games lost. Basket Flames will play against BK Duchess (#3) in Klosterneuburg in the next round, which may be the game of the day. ATUS Gratkorn will play at home against the league's leader Flying Foxes and hopes to get finally their first victory.
The game in Graz supposed to be also quite interesting. Third ranked BK Duchess (4-2) played at the court of 5th ranked UBI Graz (1-5). BK Duchess smashed UBI Graz 82-48 on Tuesday. BK Duchess have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 4-2 record having just two points less than leader Flying Foxes. Loser UBI Graz keeps the fifth place with five games lost. BK Duchess will meet at home league's second-placed Basket Flames in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. UBI Graz will play against BC Vienna and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

It's still too early stage of the Regular Season in AWBL, but even now we can clearly see the differece between stronger teams and outsiders. An exciting game was played in Klosterneuburg. BK Duchess faced Enns. Host BK Duchess (2-1) smashed guests from Herzogenburg (1-2) 67-42. The game was mostly controlled by BK Duchess. Enns managed to win third quarter 12-11. Flying Foxes Post SV Wien (AWBL) inked 23-year old American forward Nina Davis (180-94, agency: LBM Management). She just graduated from Baylor (NCAA). Davis has played there for the last four years.
