A Bundesliga Round 19: Gmunden Swans are defeated by Arkadia Lions - Jan 16, 2017

The game between second ranked Gmunden Swans (12-5) and seventh ranked Arkadia Lions (7-10) was the most important one in the last round on Saturday night. Gmunden Swans were defeated by Arkadia Lions in Traiskirchen 72-60. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Gmunden Swans. The game without a history. Arkadia Lions led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Strangely Gmunden Swans outrebounded Arkadia Lions 38-25 including 23 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Arkadia Lions made 9 blocks. It was a great evening for Argentinian-Italian forward Fabricio Vay (207-86, agency: Interperformances) who led his team to a victory scoring 28 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals. The former international Jason Detrick (195-80, college: Oklahoma, agency: Three Eye Sports) helped adding 11 points and 6 rebounds. At the losing side international forward Enis Murati (194-88, agency: Octagon Europe) responded with 22 points. Arkadia Lions moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Vienna. Gmunden Swans at the other side keep the second position with five games lost. Arkadia Lions is looking forward to face higher ranked Kapfenberg Bulls (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gmunden Swans will play against Raiffeisen Wels and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
A Bundesliga top team - Redwell Gunners Oberwart (14-2) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed fifth ranked Vienna (7-10) 81-56. Americans were the main players on the court. It was a quality performance for forward Jamari Traylor (203-92, college: Kansas) who led the winners and scored 16 points and 9 rebounds. Andell Cumberbatch accounted for 15 points and 9 rebounds. Redwell Gunners Oberwart's coach Chris Chougaz felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. point guard Anthony Clemmons (186-94, college: Iowa) came up with 18 points and 4 assists for Vienna in the defeat. Redwell Gunners Oberwart have an impressive series of ten victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 14-2 record. Vienna at the other side dropped to the sixth position with ten games lost. They share it with Arkadia. Redwell Gunners Oberwart will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Vienna will play at home against Dukes (#9) and hopes to get back on the winning track.

Kapfenberg Bulls will meet at home Arkadia Lions (#7) in the next round. UBSC Graz will play against Furstenfeld Panthers and hope to secure a win.

UBSC Graz - Kapfenberg 55-98

The game in Graz supposed to be also quite interesting. Fourth ranked Kapfenberg Bulls (9-8) played at the court of 8th ranked UBSC Graz (5-12). Kapfenberg Bulls smashed UBSC Graz 98-55 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Kapfenberg Bulls. UBSC Graz managed to win fourth quarter 18-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Kapfenberg Bulls dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to UBSC Graz's 24. Kapfenberg Bulls forced 20 UBSC Graz turnovers and had a 32-17 advantage in offensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 56.5 percentage. Kapfenberg Bulls looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by UBSC Graz's players. American guard Kareem Jamar (194-92, college: Montana) fired 32 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Serbian point guard Bogic Vujosevic (190-92) chipped in 13 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Five Kapfenberg Bulls players scored in double figures. A very interesting game took place in Klosterneuburg. It ended with only two-point home defeat of 9th ranked Dukes (4-13) to seventh ranked Furstenfeld Panthers (7-9) 62-60 on Sunday evening. Dukes were ahead by 3 points after three quarters before a 17-12 charge of Furstenfeld Panthers, which allowed them to win the game. They also forced 21 Dukes turnovers. Strangely Dukes outrebounded Furstenfeld Panthers 41-29 including a 31-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of Bulgarian forward Sim Iliev (204-89, agency: Interperformances) who helped to win the game recording 21 points and 9 rebounds. Croatian center Marino Sarlija (207-89) contributed with 13 points for the winners. International center Jozo Rados (208-93) answered with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 19 rebounds and 4 assists and international Romed Vieider (195-91) added 12 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Dukes.
