We bring you last week's top performances from Austrians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is an international point guard Thomas Schreiner (195-87, agency: Dynamics Global Management, currently plays in Spain). He contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Sevilla (7-9) crushing them 95-69 in the Spanish Liga Endesa in Sunday night's game. Schreiner scored 9 points and added 5 assists in 23 minutes on the court. MoraBanc Andorra (9-7) is placed eighth in the Liga Endesa. It's Schreiner's fifth season with the team. This year he averages: 4.3ppg, 1.4rpg, 2.6apg, 2FGP: 18.2%, 3FGP: 44.2% in 16 games he played so far. Schreiner is currently a member of the Austrian senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an international center Rasid Mahalbasic (210-90, agency: BeoBasket, currently plays in Spain). He led Sevilla to a victory against the sixth-ranked Unicaja Malaga (10-6) 76-68 in the Spanish Liga Endesa last Sunday. Mahalbasic recorded 11 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Betis Energia Plus Sevilla (7-9) is placed tenth in the Liga Endesa. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. It's Mahalbasic's first season with the team. He has relatively good stats this year: 12.2ppg, 6.0rpg, 1.2apg, 2FGP: 67.5%(27-40) and FT: 82.6%. Mahalbasic has a dual citizenship: Austrian and Slovenian. Ex-kelag Worthersee Piraten player is in the roster of the Austrian senior national team.

   #3. The Austrian player who performed third best last week abroad was an experienced former international power forward Benjamin Ortner (206-83, college: Metro St., currently plays in Italy). He contributed to a 2-point Umana Venezia's victory against the eighth-ranked Enel Brindisi (7-8) 108-106 in the Italian Serie A on Sunday night. Ortner scored 6 points in 16 minutes. Umana Reyer Venezia (11-4) is placed second in the Serie A. This year Ortner's overall stats are: 4.0ppg, 2.9rpg, 2FGP: 54.3% in 15 games. He played for the Austrian national team four years ago.

   #4. Point guard David Kramer (191-97, currently plays in Germany) managed to help Ratiopharm Ulm in a victory against the 11th-ranked Science City Jena (2-9) crushing them 114-83 in the German BBL last Sunday. He scored only 2 points in 9 minutes on the court. Ratiopharm Ulm (17-0) is placed first in the BBL. So far his team won all seventeen games in the Regular Season. This year Kramer's total stats are: 3.0ppg and 1.3rpg in four games. He is another player who holds two passports: Austrian and German. Kramer used to play for the Austrian U16 national team back in 2013.

   #5. Former international forward Jakob Poeltl (213-95, college: Utah, currently plays in NBA) contributed to an easy victory against the Brooklyn Nets (8-32) 132-113 in the NBA on Friday night. He recorded only 4 points. The Toronto Raptors have a solid 27-13 record this season. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Poeltl has averaged so far 2.3ppg and 2.7rpg. He used to play for the Austrian national team two years ago.

Despite Bauer's very good performance his team lost 74-84 on the road to the Lenoir-Rhyne College. He recorded 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists (made all of his five free throws) in 26 minutes. Bauer has averaged so far 9.6ppg, 3.2rpg and 5.3apg in 10 games. He is a former U20 international player as he played for the Austrian team three years ago.

International point guard Moritz Lanegger (190-90, currently plays in Denmark) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked SISU (3-9) crushing them 89-66 in the Danish Ligaen last Thursday. Lanegger scored 6 points, had 5 boards, dished 5 assists and stole 5 balls. Team FOG Naestved (8-8) is placed fifth in the Ligaen. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Lanegger has averaged so far 5.8ppg, 3.6rpg, 3.9apg and 1.8spg. He is also Austrian national team player.

Forward Maximilian Hopfgartner (206-92, also represented by Dynamics Global Management, college: John Brown, currently plays in Spain) contributed to Navarra's victory against the closely-ranked Zornotza (8-9) 64-60 in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division) on Saturday night. Hopfgartner scored 8 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 25 minutes. Basket Navarra de Pamplona (10-7) is placed seventh in the LEB Silver. This year Hopfgartner has relatively solid stats: 13.8ppg, 6.0rpg and 1.6apg in 17 games. He plays currently for the Austrian national team.

International point guard Thomas Klepeisz (186-91, currently plays in Germany) contributed to an Braunschweig's surprising victory against the fourth-ranked BBC Bayreuth (13-4) 82-63 in the German BBL in Sunday night's game. Klepeisz scored only 3 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Basketball Loewen Braunschweig (2-11) is placed 12th in the BBL. Klepeisz has averaged so far 6.7ppg, 1.6rpg and 1.7apg. He is also in the roster of the Austrian national team.

   #1. Bryce Douvier (201-F-91, college: Texas A&M-CC, currently plays in Portugal) was the major contributor in Ovarense's victory against the closely-ranked Lusitania (3-12) 78-73 in the Portuguese LPB in Saturday night's game. Douvier recorded a double-double by scoring 23 points and getting 15 rebounds. He also added and 4 steals; quite an impressive performance considering it's only Douvier's third season in pro basketball. Ovarense Dolce Vita (7-8) is placed seventh in the LPB. This season Douvier has relatively solid stats: 14.3ppg, 10.5rpg, 1.5apg and 1.1spg. He is a naturalized American. Strangely Douvier has never played in Austria.

   #2. Experienced Michael Kaiser (195-G/F-82, currently plays in Germany). Kaiser could not help Herzogenaurach (3-12) to beat Ansbach (6-9). He recorded 7 points in 20 minutes. The 13th-placed Herzogenaurach (3-12) lost 78-92 on the road to the higher-ranked (#8) Ansbach in the South-East group. It was Herzogenaurach's seventh consecutive loss in a row. Kaiser is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his ninth year in Herzogenaurach's roster. Kaiser has reliable stats this season: 14.4ppg, 2.8rpg, 2.7apg and 1.5spg in 15 games he played so far.

The BK Klosterneuburg Dukes have added some offensive firepower. The club signed Ex ABL MVP Fabricio Vay(207-F-86, agency: Interperformances) from local rival Arkadia Traiskirchen Lions. Vay was the second leading ABL scorer last season putting up 19.4 points per contest. In addition to that Vay grabbed 8.8 rpg making him the third best rebounder of the league. The 31 year old forward played for Traiskirchen since February of 2013. He first came to Austria in 2006 playing for Traiskirchen.    [read more]

Austrian runner up Oberwart Gunners have announced that the club has inked Lluis Pino as their new head coach. Pino replaces Chris Chougaz who was in talks to stay for a third season but decided to leave. Pino came to Austria last season coaching UBSC Raiffeisen Graz. After a disappointing season with many ups and downs Pino and Graz decided to terminate his contract on a mutual agreement in April. Hapoel Beer Sheva (National League) signed 24-year old American guard Andell Cumberbatch (196-88kg-93, college: St.Bonaventure, agency: Octagon Europe). He played last season at Redwell Gunners Oberwart in Austrian A Bundesliga. In 41 games he had very impressive stats: 15.3ppg, 6.5rpg, 2.4apg and 1.8spg (in top 3).
