Here is the weekly review of the top performing Austrian players, who play currently abroad.

Rasid Mahalbasic
Rasid Mahalbasic
#1. This week's number one is an international center Rasid Mahalbasic (210-90, agency: BeoBasket, currently plays in Spain). Mahalbasic could not help Sevilla (7-14) to beat UCAM Murcia (7-15). He recorded 9 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. But Sevilla was defeated 92-80 on the road by the lower-ranked UCAM Murcia (#15). It was Sevilla's sixth consecutive loss in a row. It's Mahalbasic's first season with the team. Mahalbasic has relatively good stats this year: 12.3ppg, 6.6rpg, 1.3apg, 2FGP: 65.4%(53-81) and FT: 78.4%. He has a dual citizenship: Austrian and Slovenian. Ex-kelag Worthersee Piraten player is currently a member of the Austrian senior national team.

Benjamin Ortner
Benjamin Ortner
#2. Second place goes to an experienced former international power forward Benjamin Ortner (206-83, college: Metro St., currently plays in Basketball Champions League). Ortner managed to help Umana Reyer Venezia in a victory against the closely-ranked Scandone AV (10-4) 53-49 in the Basketball Champions League on Wednesday night. He recorded only 4 points in 8 minutes on the court. Umana Reyer Venezia (9-5) is placed third in group B. This year Ortner averages: 4.0ppg, 3.5rpg, 1.1spg, 2FGP: 46.4% and FT: 61.5% in 17 games he played so far. He played for the Austrian national team in 2013.

Thomas Schreiner
Thomas Schreiner
#3. The Austrian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international point guard Thomas Schreiner (195-87, agency: Dynamics Global Management, currently plays in Spain). Schreiner contributed to Andorra's victory against the league outsider La ICL Manresa (3-19) 85-77 in the Spanish Liga Endesa in Sunday night's game. He scored only 4 points. MoraBanc Andorra (11-10) is placed eighth in the Liga Endesa. They ended the series of three consecutive loses. Schreiner has been at the team for five years. Schreiner's overall stats this season are: 4.2ppg, 1.9rpg, 2.2apg, 2FGP: 19.0%, 3FGP: 42.9%. He is also a member of the Austrian senior national team.

Moritz Lanegger
Moritz Lanegger
#4. Point guard Moritz Lanegger (190-90, currently plays in Denmark) was not able to help Naestved (12-14) in their last game. Despite Lanegger's good performance Naestved lost 65-73 at home to the second-ranked Bakken. He scored 11 points, had 6 rebounds, passed 4 assists and added 2 blocks in 38 minutes. It was Naestved's fifth consecutive loss in a row. Lanegger's team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And that game will be critical. This year Lanegger's overall stats are: 6.7ppg, 4.3rpg, 4.0apg and 1.3spg in 18 games. He is also Austrian national team player.

Maximilian Hopfgartner
Maximilian Hopfgartner
#5. International forward Maximilian Hopfgartner (206-92, also represented by Dynamics Global Management, college: John Brown, currently plays in Spain) contributed to a 2-point Navarra's victory against the 14th-ranked Gandia (7-16) 66-64 in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division) on Saturday night. Hopfgartner scored 7 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Basket Navarra de Pamplona (12-11) is placed tenth in the LEB Silver. This season Hopfgartner has relatively solid stats: 12.8ppg, 6.0rpg and 1.5apg. He plays currently for the Austrian national team.

Jakob Poeltl
Jakob Poeltl
#6. Forward Jakob Poeltl (213-95, college: Utah, currently plays in NBA) was not able to secure a victory for the Toronto Raptors (37-26) in their game against the Washington Wizards (37-24) in the NBA. Poeltl cannot count it as his best performance. He scored only 2 points in 7 minutes on the court. The Toronto Raptors (37-26) lost 96-105 in Washington to the Wizards. This year Poeltl's total stats are: 2.1ppg and 2.6rpg in 36 games. He is a former international player as he played for the Austrian senior team two years ago.

Thomas Klepeisz
Thomas Klepeisz
#7. International point guard Thomas Klepeisz (186-91, currently plays in Germany) couldn't help Braunschweig (3-17) in their game against Brose Baskets (21-1) in the German BBL. Klepeisz scored 5 points. Braunschweig was badly defeated 95-75 in Bamberg by the second-ranked Brose Baskets. It was Braunschweig's fourth consecutive loss in a row. Klepeisz has averaged so far 6.4ppg, 1.4rpg and 1.4apg. He is also Austrian national team player.

The list of other players, who all have Austrian passport but never been selected to any of Austrian national teams:

#1. Bryce Douvier (201-F-91, college: Texas A&M-CC, currently plays in Portugal) led Ovarense to a victory over the third-ranked Lusitania (6-17) crushing them 102-77 in the Portuguese LPB in Sunday night's game. He was MVP of the game. Douvier had a double-double by scoring 34 points and getting 17 rebounds. He also added 4 assists and 3 steals in 37 minutes; quite an impressive performance considering it's only Douvier's third season in pro basketball. It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in group Places 7-12. Ovarense Dolce Vita (12-11) is placed second. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Douvier has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 16.4ppg, 10.3rpg and 1.3apg in 23 games he played so far. Douvier is a naturalized American. Strangely he has never played in Austria.

#2. Experienced Michael Kaiser (195-G/F-82, currently plays in Germany) could not help Herzogenaurach (4-18) in their last game. Despite Kaiser's good performance the 13th-placed Herzogenaurach (4-18) lost 73-85 at home to the lower-ranked (#14) Bayreuth 2 in the South-East group. He scored 14 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and dished 6 assists in 32 minutes. It was Herzogenaurach's fourth consecutive loss in a row. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Kaiser is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his ninth year in Herzogenaurach's roster. Kaiser has reliable stats this season: 14.5ppg, 3.3rpg, 2.9apg and 1.5spg in 22 games.

#3. Luka Asceric (202-SG-97, currently plays in France) was not able to help Lille Metropole in their game against Boulazac Basket (10-10) in the French ProB (second division). He cannot count Friday's game as one of the best ones. Asceric scored only 2 points and added 3 passes. Lille Metropole was defeated 84-70 on the road by the lower-ranked Boulazac Basket (#8). Asceric has averaged so far 5.5ppg, 2.8rpg and 1.8apg.
