A Bundesliga Round 27: Top-ranked Redwell Gunners Oberwart wins another game - Mar 11, 2017

A Bundesliga top team - Redwell Gunners Oberwart (21-4) had no problems winning another game on Thursday. This time they beat seventh ranked Furstenfeld Panthers (11-14) 78-62. The game was mostly controlled by Redwell Gunners Oberwart. Furstenfeld Panthers managed to win third quarter 20-10. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Redwell Gunners Oberwart dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Furstenfeld Panthers' 36. Redwell Gunners Oberwart forced 20 Furstenfeld Panthers turnovers. It was a good game for American forward Jamari Traylor (203-92, college: Kansas) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. His fellow American import guard Andell Cumberbatch (196-93, college: St.Bonaventure, agency: Octagon Europe) contributed with 19 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Redwell Gunners Oberwart's coach Chris Chougaz used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Croatian Marko Car (188-85) answered with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists for Furstenfeld Panthers. Redwell Gunners Oberwart have a solid series of four victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 21-4 record. Furstenfeld Panthers at the other side keep the seventh position with 14 games lost. Redwell Gunners Oberwart will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Furstenfeld Panthers will play on the road against UBSC Graz (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Arkadia Lions managed to secure a 9-point victory 87-78. It was a great evening for the former international point guard Benedikt Danek (176-86) who led his team to a victory scoring 23 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Jason Detrick helped adding 27 points and 6 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Slovenian forward Dejan Cigoja (205-88) with 22 points and 8 rebounds. Arkadia Lions have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain fifth place with 13-12 record. Raiffeisen Wels at the other side keep the fourth position with 11 games lost. Arkadia Lions will play against higher ranked Kapfenberg Bulls (#3) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Raiffeisen Wels will play against the league's second-placed Gmunden Swans in Gmunden and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Gmunden Swans maintains second place with 18-7 record having just three points less than leader Oberwart. UBSC Graz lost third consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with 19 games lost. Gmunden Swans will meet at home Raiffeisen Wels (#4) in the next round. UBSC Graz will play against Furstenfeld Panthers (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last game of round 27 bottom-ranked Klosterneuburg were smashed by Kapfenberg on the road 89-68.

Gmunden - UBSC Graz 93-51

The game between second ranked Gmunden Swans (18-7) and 8th ranked UBSC Graz (6-19) in Gmunden on Friday ended with biggest points difference. Gmunden Swans outscored guests from Graz 93-51. The game without a history. Gmunden Swans led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to UBSC Graz's 28. They outrebounded UBSC Graz 37-14 including a 26-10 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Gmunden Swans especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.6 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists comparing to just 16 passes made by UBSC Graz's players. It was a quality performance for forward Toni Blazan (195-92, agency: Mansfield and Associates) who led the winners and scored 15 points and 8 rebounds. Naturalized German power forward Tilo Klette (206-77) accounted for 16 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side. Five Gmunden Swans players scored in double figures. Gmunden Swans' coach Bernd Wimmer felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Kapfenberg - Klosterneuburg 89-68

No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Kapfenberg Bulls (14-11) crushed at home bottom-ranked Dukes (4-21) 89-68 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Kapfenberg Bulls. Dukes managed to win third quarter 16-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Kapfenberg Bulls forced 19 Dukes turnovers and outrebounded them 43-23 including 16 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Dukes' players. It was an exceptional evening for Serbian Nemanja Krstic (205-93) who led the winners and scored 22 points and 5 rebounds. American guard Marck Coffin (193-91, college: Idaho Coll.) accounted for 13 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists for the winning side. Coach Michael Schrittwieser's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play 10 players saving starting five for next games. The former international center Christoph Greimeister (208-90) came up with 11 points and 6 rebounds and point guard Lennart Burgemeister (182-96) added 15 points respectively for Dukes in the defeat. Four Kapfenberg Bulls and five Dukes players scored in double figures. Kapfenberg Bulls moved-up to third place. Dukes lost thirteenth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 21 lost games. Kapfenberg Bulls will meet Arkadia Lions (#5) in the next round. Dukes will play against Vienna (#6) and hope to secure a win.

The BK Klosterneuburg Dukes have added some offensive firepower. The club signed Ex ABL MVP Fabricio Vay(207-F-86, agency: Interperformances) from local rival Arkadia Traiskirchen Lions. Vay was the second leading ABL scorer last season putting up 19.4 points per contest. In addition to that Vay grabbed 8.8 rpg making him the third best rebounder of the league.
