Azerbaijan surprise Bulgaria in Baku in Day 2 of the EuroBasket qualifying campaign. With only 6 participating players the hosts side celebrated a 88:71 victory.
The hosts raced into an early 18-6 lead on two free throws from Davis, and led 26-14 at the end of the first quarter after Rasim Bashak nailed a late three-pointer. Moreover they won the second frame 27-17 and enjoyed 53:31 at the halftime. Azerbaijan also won the third period 23-21 and did not mind slowing down in the rest of the game. Bulgaria managed to win the last stanza 19-12 but could not come closer to the opponent.
Charles Davis (205-C-84, college: Alabama) stepped up with 30 points for the winners, while Orhan Haciyeva (200-PF-89) collected 16 points and 15 rebounds. Fuad Niftaliyev (185-PG-80) notched 15 and Rasim Bashak (200-F-80, agency: Court Side) added 13. Aleksandar Georgiev (203-F-90, agency: Interperformances) and Bozhidar Avramov (196-PG-90, agency: Interperformances) posted 14 points each in the losing effort as Bulgaria is with 1-1 record. Nikolay Varbanov (210-C-85, agency: Interperformances) followed them with 10 points in a loss.

BK Kremen Kremenchuk (Superleague) added to their roster 26-year old Azerbaijani power forward Amil Hamzayev (204-90). The last time (12-13) he played at Gyandzha in Azerbaijani D1 league. The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others Hamzayev played in the final of Azerbaijan League for two years in a row (2012 and 2013). Hopsi Polzela (Telemach League) strengthened their roster with addition of 18-year old Azerbaijani power forward Endar Poladkhanli (198-98). He played most recently at Azerbaijani U18 National Team. Poladkhanli received Eurobasket.com All-European Championships U18 Division C 1st Team award in 2015 and 2016. Galatasaray Odeabank Istanbul (BSL) strengthened their roster with addition of 27-year old former Azerbaijani international power forward Orhan Haciyeva (200-89) from TED Kolejliler.
