Bulgaria topple Azerbaijan for crucial win in Group B - Sep 2, 2012

Bulgaria stayed hopeful about their 2013 EuroBasket ambitions. They shot down Azerbaijan in Samokov to catch up with their opponents at 3-3 record in Group B. Hristo Nikolov (200-PF-85) posted 26 points to lead the hosts.
Bulgaria left their opponents behind in the opening quarter. The hosts went on a 26:13 run in the first frame. Azerbaijan however stopped the rot in the second stanza. The visitors held Bulgaria to 11 points in the period to narrow the gap at 6-point mark at halftime 37:31. Bulgaria unleashed 31 points in the third quarter to take a 21-point lead at the final break. Azerbaijan challenged the hosts with a 15:7 run but Bulgaria quickly bounced back and silenced the visitors at the end. Ivan Lilov (196-SG-88) accounted for 17 points, while Chavdar Kostov (195-SG-88, agency: Interperformances) finished with 21 points for Bulgaria. Aleksandr Rindin (225-C-85, agency: Interperformances) answered with 17 points for Azerbaijan. Charles Davis (205-C-84, college: Alabama) banked 19 points and 13 rebounds in the loss.

D1 Round 4: Top-ranked Dervish wins another game - 3 days ago

Coincidentally all visitors won their games. D1 top team - Dervish (4-0) had no problems winning another game on Sunday. This time they crushed seventh ranked Araz (0-4) in Nahchivan 70-44. Dervish have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 4-0 record. Araz at the other side still closes the standings with four games lost. Round 1 of the Regular Season - 22 days ago

The Regular season just started in Azerbaijan. This season the league opened the doors for 7 teams.The winner of the previous season Aztop will not participate this season, so NTD and Dervish are the favorites for the top places. NTD smashed Araz 100-68 in their opener. Dervish survived a thriller against 80ies in a 79-77 win. In another game of the round ADNSU overcame NTD U16 75-54.   [read more]

Amil Hamzayev (ex Gyandzha) joins BK Kremen - 4 months ago

BK Kremen Kremenchuk (Superleague) added to their roster 26-year old Azerbaijani power forward Amil Hamzayev (204-90). The last time (12-13) he played at Gyandzha in Azerbaijani D1 league. The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others Hamzayev played in the final of Azerbaijan League for two years in a row (2012 and 2013).
