American Romeo Travis (200-PF-84) had an amazing evening in the last round for league's leader Galil Gilboa and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 7. The 27-year old power forward had a double-double of 22 points and ten rebounds, while his team crushed Mornar Bar (#3, 4-3) with 25-point margin 92-67. It allowed Galil Gilboa to consolidate first place in the Balkan League group A. Galil Gilboa have a solid 6-1 record. Travis turned to be Galil Gilboa's top player in his first season with the team. The University of Akron graduate has very impressive stats this year. Travis is in league's top in rebounds (5th best: 7.8rpg) and averages solid 1.4bpg and 54.9% FGP.
The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 23-year old American power forward Curtis Kelly (205-PF-88) of second-ranked Hapoel T-A. Kelly impressed basketball fans with 28 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists. Bad luck as Hapoel T-A lost that game 79-86 to group B's leader Levski Sofia (#1, 7-0). It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the top position in group B. Hapoel T-A still maintains its place in the top 2 of the standings, even despite this loss. His team's 5-2 record is not bad at all. Kelly is a newcomer at Hapoel T-A and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.
The third best performed player last round was Montenegrin Branko Cuic (197-G-78, agency: 011 Sports) of Timisoara (#4). Cuic showcased his all-around game by recording 21 points, ten rebounds and six assists in the last round. He was a key player of Timisoara, leading his team to a 80-69 win against #2 ranked Rilski Sportist. The chances of Timisoara ranking at the top of group A, however are very questionable as they have already lost 4 games, recording just three victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Cuic could help Timisoara to bring them higher in the standings. Cuic has a very solid season. In 7 games in Balkan League he scored 6.6ppg. He also has 4.7rpg and 3.4apg.
Other top performing players last week: 4. Aaron Harper (199-G/F-81) of Levski Sofia - 24 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists 5. Marcel Jones (203-F-85) of Zrinjski HT - 21 points, 17 rebounds and 3 assists 6. Joseph Jones (204-C/F-86) of Galil Gilboa - 19 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists 7. Sime Spralja (206-F/C-83) of Timisoara - 22 points and 9 rebounds 8. Justin Reynolds (204-F/C-88) of Torus Skopje - 15 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists 9. Dominique Archie (200-F-87) of Timisoara - 15 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists 10. Diego Kapelan (190-G-87) of Zrinjski HT - 22 points and 4 rebounds
The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
