After it became clear that BC Kavala will play in EUROHOLD BIBL this season, the Management of the League are thinking over 2 options for the competition system. On Monday September 10th, BIBL Sports Director Mr. Shay Shtriks will have meeting in Skopje with the president of F.Y.R. of Macedonian Basketball Federation Mr. Daniel Dimevski about the participation of one or two respectable teams from F.Y.R. of Macedonia. The Management of the League is still waiting for official answer from Romanian Basketball Federation if a local team will play in EUROHOLD BIBL this year or not.
Until today, 8 teams from 5 countries confirmed their participation in season 2012-2013 :
Bulgaria : BC Levski Sofia BC Rilski Sportist
Croatia : KK Brod-Svjetlost
Greece : BC Kavala
Israel : BC Galil Gilboa
Montenegro : KK Mornar Bar
KK Teodo Tivat
Serbia : OKK Beograd
Here there are the two options of the competition system for the upcoming season :
Option 1 : If the teams remain 8, there are not going to be groups and the format will be: one league of 8 teams + Final 4. The minimum number of games per team in this format is 14.
Option 2 : If BIBL increases the teams to 10, then the format will be : 1st stage - Two groups of 5 teams (teams from the same country will be in different groups) 2nd stage - First 3 teams of each group will make a league of 6 teams, keeping the results from the first stage. After that the first 4 teams qualify for the Final 4. The teams placed 4th and 5th in the group stage will form a group of 4 teams, keeping the results from the first stage. The minimum number of games per team in this format is 12.
Until 14th of September EUROHOLD Balkan League will announce officially the number and the names of the participating teams, along with the approved format of the competition.

American Guard Shane Gibson (188-G-90) put on an amazing game in the last round for top-ranked Beroe, receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 2. The 26-year old player was the main contributor (33 points) to his team's victory, helping them to beat Kozuv (#3, 1-1) 86-80. It allowed Beroe to consolidate first place in the Balkan League. But it's just the very beginning of the season and Beroe won both games without losing any. It's too early to say anything as the standings can be changed completely after next round. In the team's last game Gibson had a remarkable eight three-pointers out of 13 attempts. He turned to be Beroe's top player in his first season with the team. Former Sacred Heart University star has very solid stats this year. Gibson is league's best scorer averaging so far 28.0ppg. Gibson is in league's top in and averages impressive 2.5spg,58.3% FGP and 57.1% from behind 3-point line.
The second best player in last round's games was another Beroe's star - young DR Congolese Omari Gudul (208-F-94, agency: Two Points). Gudul had a very good evening with 23 points and 7 rebounds. It was enough for Beroe to edge Kozuv (1-1) 86-80. His team has extremely good start of the season. They won both games so far. However the season is at the beginning, so everything can happen. They still may lose their high position in the standings. Gudul is a newcomer at Beroe, but is already one of team's top players.
Third on the list of top players last round was American guard Kenyon McNeaill (185-PG-91) of Kozuv (#3). McNeaill scored 28 points and passed five assists. Despite McNeaill's great performance Kozuv lost 80-86 to #1 ranked Beroe. But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates especially in such crucial game. The last thing Kozuv needs is to lose another game like this one. McNeaill has a great season in Balkan League. After only 2 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 19.5ppg (8th best).
Other top performing players last week: 4. Montrael Scott (190-G-89) of Trepca - 24 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists 5. Aleksandar Kostovski (186-PG-88) of Kumanovo - 20 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists 6. Gazmend Sinani (206-C-91) of Bashkimi - 15 points and 10 rebounds 7. The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
The Montenegrin coach, Petar Mijovic , has resigned from Sigal Prishtina yesterday.
