Round 2: Rilski Sportist hands first defeat to Kozuv - Oct 25, 2012

There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in Balkan League. 


Group A
Mornar Bar - Galil Gilboa 49-80

Guests from Galil (2-0) smashed host Mornar Bar (0-2) 80-49. The game was mostly controlled by Galil Gilboa. Mornar Bar was better in fourth quarter 20-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Mornar Bar to just 2 points in second quarter and to 13 points in first half. Galil Gilboa had a 40-25 advantage in offensive rebounds. Mornar Bar was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Dagan Yavzuri (193-85) orchestrated the victory by scoring 17 points and 4 assists (perfect from the field making all six shots). American forward Brandon Hunter (201-80, college: Ohio) contributed with 11 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Four Galil Gilboa players scored in double figures. Serbian forward Lazar Radosavljevic (204-91, agency: Beo Basket) replied with 14 points and center Vukota Pavic (203-93) added 5 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Mornar Bar. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Galil Gilboa will play against Kumanovo 2009 at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Mornar Bar will play against Djuro Djakovic in Slavonski Brod and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Levski Sofia - Djuro Djakovic 77-73

Host Levski Sofia (1-0) defeated guests from Slavonski Brod (0-2) 77-73. The hosts trailed by 2 points after three quarters before their 23-17 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Levski Sofia forced 21 Djuro Djakovic turnovers. Serbian point guard Marko Marinovic (183-83) scored 14 points and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and center Nikolay Varbanov (210-85, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 12 points during the contest. Levski Sofia's coach Konstantin Papazov used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Power forward Marino Sarlija (207-89) responded with 17 points and 8 rebounds and Bosnian swingman Marko Batina (198-86) scored 18 points. Four Djuro Djakovic players scored in double figures. Levski Sofia will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Djuro Djakovic will play against Mornar Bar and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 28-16. But OKK Beograd won third quarter 19-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Guard Yannis Gagaloudis (192-78) scored 17 points and 7 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Canadian-Bosnian guard Nemanja Mitrovic (197-90, college: Portland) chipped in 17 points during the contest. Five Kavala players scored in double figures. Bosnian-Serbian point guard Aleksej Nesovic (189-85, agency: Beo Basket) responded with 18 points and 4 assists and power forward Milos Pavlovic (210-84, agency: BeoExcell) scored 12 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Kavala will meet Kozuv in the next round and are hoping to win another game. OKK Beograd will play against Teodo Tivat and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Kozuv - Rilski Sportist 76-99

The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. It was a great shooting night for Rilski Sportist especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 61.1 percentage. The best player for the winners was American point guard Terry Smith (185-86, college: Mercyhurst) who scored 28 points. Serbian guard Branko Mirkovic (190-82, agency: Global Sports Plaza) chipped in 16 points and 7 assists. Five Rilski Sportist players scored in double figures. Serbian power forward Slobodan Bozovic (207-79) produced 16 points and 7 rebounds and Serbian swingman Miladin Pekovic (197-83, agency: BeoExcell) added 16 points respectively for the hosts. Kozuv's coach Marjan Srbinovski gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Rilski Sportist will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Kozuv will play at home against Kavala and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Sport Klub Tirana is the newest member of SIGAL-UNIQA Balkan League. The Albanian club sent today the necessary documents for registration and will take part of the competition in the upcoming season. Sport Klub Tirana will be second team from Albania to play in BIBL. Veseli re-signs at Peja - 16 hours ago

KB Peja (SuperLeague) confirmed in their roster 26-year old international forward Alban Veseli (202-90). He has played there for the last two seasons. In 27 SuperLeague games he recorded 10.5ppg, 5.1rpg, 2.1apg and 1.1spg last season. Veseli helped them to win the Supercup and make to league final. BC Beroe (NBL) re-signed 27-year old swingman Martin Radnev (192-90kg-89). He has played there for the last seven seasons. In 24 NBL games he averaged just 2.8ppg and 1.0rpg last season. Radnev also played 10 games in Balkan League where he had only 1.0ppg. He helped them to make it to the semifinals.
