American Guard Shane Gibson (188-G-90) put on an amazing game in the last round for top-ranked Beroe, receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 2. The 26-year old player was the main contributor (33 points) to his team's victory, helping them to beat Kozuv (#3, 1-1) 86-80. It allowed Beroe to consolidate first place in the Balkan League. But it's just the very beginning of the season and Beroe won both games without losing any. It's too early to say anything as the standings can be changed completely after next round. In the team's last game Gibson had a remarkable eight three-pointers out of 13 attempts. He turned to be Beroe's top player in his first season with the team. Former Sacred Heart University star has very solid stats this year. Gibson is league's best scorer averaging so far 28.0ppg. Gibson is in league's top in and averages impressive 2.5spg,58.3% FGP and 57.1% from behind 3-point line.
The second best player in last round's games was another Beroe's star - young DR Congolese Omari Gudul (208-F-94, agency: Two Points). Gudul had a very good evening with 23 points and 7 rebounds. It was enough for Beroe to edge Kozuv (1-1) 86-80. His team has extremely good start of the season. They won both games so far. However the season is at the beginning, so everything can happen. They still may lose their high position in the standings. Gudul is a newcomer at Beroe, but is already one of team's top players.
Third on the list of top players last round was American guard Kenyon McNeaill (185-PG-91) of Kozuv (#3). McNeaill scored 28 points and passed five assists. Despite McNeaill's great performance Kozuv lost 80-86 to #1 ranked Beroe. But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates especially in such crucial game. The last thing Kozuv needs is to lose another game like this one. McNeaill has a great season in Balkan League. After only 2 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 19.5ppg (8th best).
