Round 7: Rilski Sportist hands first loss to undefeated Teodo Tivat - Dec 7, 2012

Host teams show no mercy winning all games.

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Montenegrin Teodo Tivat (4-1) in Samokov on Wednesday night. Visitors were rolled over by Bulgarian Rilski Sportist (4-2) 87-67. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Teodo Tivat. It was a key game for the top position in the league as both teams had the same 3-2 record before this meeting. The game without a history. Rilski Sportist led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 23-of-26 free shots (88.5 percent) during the game, while Teodo Tivat only scored seven points from the stripe. 25 personal fouls committed by Teodo Tivat helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Tony Gugino (207-86, college: Hillsdale) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws). Hristo Zahariev (197-90) contributed with 14 points and 6 assists for the winners. Center Savo Djikanovic (211-75, agency: Beo Basket) answered with 18 points and 6 rebounds for Teodo Tivat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Rilski Sportist keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Galil Gilboa and Kumanovo. Teodo Tivat at the other side keeps the sixth place with one game lost. Rilski Sportist will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Teodo Tivat will play on the road against OKK Beograd (#10) and is hoping to win this game.
An interesting game for Bulgarian Levski Sofia (3-1) which hosted in Sofia leader Israeli Galil Gilboa (4-2). Third ranked Levski Sofia managed to get a 8-point victory 87-79. It was a great evening for Serbian point guard Marko Marinovic (183-83) who led his team to a victory scoring 32 points and 4 assists. Chavdar Kostov helped adding 11 points and 4 assists. Levski Sofia's coach Konstantin Papazov allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the losing side point guard Nimrod Tishman (197-91) responded with 8 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Levski Sofia maintains third place with 3-1 record behind leader Galil Gilboa. Galil Gilboa at the other side still keeps top position with two games lost. They share it with Kumanovo and Rilski Sportist. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
An interesting game for FYR Macedonian Kumanovo 2009 (4-2) which hosted in Kumanovo leader Israeli Galil Gilboa (4-2). Second ranked Kumanovo 2009 managed to get a 8-point victory 74-66. It was a key game for the top position in the league. It was an exceptional evening for Uros Lukovic who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds. Mitchell Watt came up with 18 points for Galil Gilboa in the defeat. Galil Gilboa's coach Lior Lubin rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Kumanovo 2009 keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Galil Gilboa and Rilski Sportist. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

In the last game of round 7 Kozuv was beaten by Kavala on the road 87-77.

Kavala - Kozuv 87-77

We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when ninth ranked Greek Kavala (3-2) beat at home 8th ranked FYR Macedonian Kozuv (3-4) 87-77 on Wednesday. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Kavala outrebounded Kozuv 39-19 including a 29-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Kavala especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.6 percentage. It was an exceptional evening for American point guard Anthony Grundy (189-79, college: N.Carolina St.) who led the winners and scored 17 points and 4 assists. His fellow American import forward William Coleman (206-88, college: Memphis) accounted for 14 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side. Five Kavala players scored in double figures. Guard Darko Radulovic (192-80) came up with 11 points and 4 assists and Serbian point guard Igor Mijajlovic (193-84, agency: Global Sports Plaza) added 12 points respectively for Kozuv in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Kavala moved-up to eighth place. Loser Kozuv dropped to the ninth position with four games lost. Kavala will again meet at home Kozuv (#9) in the next round. Kozuv will have a break next round.

An interesting game for Bulgarian Levski Sofia (3-1) which hosted in Sofia leader Israeli Galil Gilboa (4-2). Third ranked Levski Sofia managed to get a 8-point victory 87-79. The hosts were already 15 points ahead at halftime and as many as 17 after three quarters before a 25-16 last quarter charge of Galil Gilboa cut the lead to 87-79 at the end of the game. Levski Sofia made 29-of-33 charity shots (87.9 percent) during the game. Galil Gilboa was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for Serbian point guard Marko Marinovic (183-83) who led his team to a victory scoring 32 points and 4 assists. An interesting game for FYR Macedonian Kumanovo 2009 (4-2) which hosted in Kumanovo leader Israeli Galil Gilboa (4-2). Second ranked Kumanovo 2009 managed to get a 8-point victory 74-66. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Galil Gilboa was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. It was an exceptional evening for Serbian center Uros Lukovic (212-89) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds. Guard Aleksandar Kostoski (186-88, agency: Global Sports Plaza) accounted for 14 points and 5 assists for the winning side. Four Kumanovo 2009 players scored in double figures. American forward Mitchell Watt (208-89, college: Buffalo) came up with 18 points and Dagan Yavzuri (193-85) added 13 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Galil Gilboa in the defeat.
