The Second Stage in Balkan League just started.

Group First Six
Galil Gilboa - Kavala 73-78

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Israeli Galil Gilboa (2-1) in Rosh Pina on Wednesday night. Hosts were defeated by Greek Kavala (3-0) 78-73. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Galil Gilboa. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 24-19. But Galil Gilboa won second period 20-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Kavala looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American forward William Coleman (206-88, college: Memphis) nailed a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side and Serbian-Greek guard Igor Milosevic (193-86, agency: Beo Basket) accounted for 10 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. American forward Brandon Bowman (204-84, college: Georgetown) came up with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import forward Mitchell Watt (208-89, college: Buffalo) added 17 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Galil Gilboa in the defeat. Five Kavala and four Galil Gilboa players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Kavala keeps a position of Group C leader, which they share with Levski Sofia and Kumanovo. Loser Galil Gilboa dropped to the fourth place with one game lost. They share the position with Rilski Sportist and Teodo Tivat. Kavala will meet at home league's leader Levski Sofia in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Galil Gilboa will play against Teodo Tivat and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Teodo Tivat - Kumanovo 79-95

We should not miss anothera road victory of leader FYR Macedonian Kumanovo 2009 (3-0) over 3rd placed Montenegrin Teodo Tivat (2-1) 95-79. The game was mostly controlled by Kumanovo 2009. Teodo Tivat was better in second period 25-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Kumanovo 2009 shot 66.7 percent from the field. Kumanovo 2009 shot the lights out from three nailing 15 long-distance shots on high 75.0 percentage. Kumanovo 2009 players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. Guard Aleksandar Kostoski (186-88, agency: Global Sports Plaza) fired 22 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. Swingman Ivica Dimcevski (194-89, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 21 points (perfect behind the arc making all five shots). Four Kumanovo 2009 players scored in double figures. Serbian forward Sinisa Tepavcevic (201-84) produced 30 points and 5 assists and center Savo Djikanovic (211-75, agency: Beo Basket) added 12 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. Kumanovo 2009 keeps a position of Group C leader, which they share with Levski Sofia and Kavala. Teodo Tivat at the other side dropped to the bottom place with one game lost. Kumanovo 2009's next round opponent will be Rilski Sportist (#4) in Samokov. Teodo Tivat will play on the road against Galil Gilboa in Rosh Pina and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Levski Sofia - Rilski Sportist 84-62

First defeat of Rilski Sportist (2-1) against Levski Sofia (3-0) 84-62 was the most important game of the last round. The game was mostly controlled by Levski Sofia. Rilski Sportist managed to win third quarter 29-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Rilski Sportist 41-23 including a 32-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of Chavdar Kostov (195-88, agency: Interperformances) who helped to win the game recording 29 points. Center Nikolay Varbanov (210-85, agency: Interperformances) contributed with 12 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Levski Sofia's coach Konstantin Papazov felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American point guard Terry Smith (185-86, college: Mercyhurst) answered with 26 points and 5 steals and Hristo Zahariev (197-90) added 12 points in the effort for Rilski Sportist. Levski Sofia keeps a position of Group C leader, which they share with Kumanovo and Kavala. Rilski Sportist at the other side dropped to the fourth place with one game lost. They share the position with Galil Gilboa and Teodo Tivat. They were replaced at the leadership position by Levski Sofia. Rilski Sportist will play next round against strong Kumanovo 2009 trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Levski Sofia will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked Kavala on the road.

Kozuv - Mornar Bar 72-64

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked FYR Macedonian Kozuv as it allowed them to take a leadership position in Group D. Kozuv defeated Montenegrin Mornar Bar in Gevgelija 72-64. Mornar Bar was ahead by 2 points after three quarters before a 18-8 charge of Kozuv, which allowed them to win the game. Mornar Bar was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Center Aleksandar Shterjov (208-86, agency: Global Sports Plaza) stepped up and scored 20 points and 6 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winners and Serbian swingman Miladin Pekovic (197-83, agency: BeoExcell) chipped in 14 points and 4 assists. At the losing side guard Miroslav Damjanovic (196-91) responded with 11 points and 4 assists and guard Milos Djurisic (194-88, agency: TSS Management) scored 13 points. Mornar Bar's coach Mihailo Pavicevic rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. As mentioned above they took over a top position. Mornar Bar at the other side still closes the standings with two games lost. Mornar Bar will play next round against strong OKK Beograd trying to get back on the winning streak. Kozuv will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked Djuro Djakovic at Slavonski Brod.

BC Beroe (NBL) added to their roster 23-year old Croatian point guard Juraj Segaric (185-93). He played last season at Jolly Jadranska Banka Sibenik in Croatian A1 league. In 11 games he recorded very impressive stats: 15.6ppg, 3.8rpg, 5.5apg and 1.9spg. BC Beroe (NBL) landed 28-year old former international center Nikolay Kolev (205-88, agency: Interperformances). It is actually his comeback to Stara Zagora as he has played here before. Kolev played most recently at Lukoil Academic Sofia in the NBL. In 16 games he averaged just 2.7ppg and 1.6rpg last season.
