The Second Stage in Balkan League just started.

The game in Gevgelija was quite interesting. Feni Industries (1-2) played at the court of Kozuv (1-2). Kozuv defeated Feni Industries 89-73 on Tuesday. The game was mostly controlled by Kozuv. Feni Industries managed to win fourth quarter 22-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American point guard Kenyon McNeaill (185-91, college: Louisiana Tech) stepped up and scored 25 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners and his fellow American import guard Larry Hall (190-83, college: W.Oregon) chipped in 16 points and 6 assists. Kozuv's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side power forward Kiril Nikolovski (210-88) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds. Kozuv is looking forward to face Sutjeska (#8) in Niksic in the next round. Feni Industries will play at home against Beroe and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 1:
In Group C Sutjeska lost to undefeated Beroe on the opponent's court 76-104.
In Group D Karpos Sokoli lost to undefeated Kumanovo in a home game 101-106. Peja was rolled over Teodo Tivat on the road 84-104.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 14 points and 6 rebounds by Zoran Vrkic of Karpos Sokoli.

Beroe - Sutjeska 104-76

Rather expected game in Stara Zagora where Montenegrin Sutjeska (1-2) was crushed by Bulgarian Beroe (3-0) 104-76 on Tuesday. Beroe outrebounded Sutjeska 41-25 including 16 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Beroe made 7 blocks. DR Congolese forward Omari Gudul (208-94, college: Angelo St., agency: Two Points) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and Tihomir Zhelev (193-90) chipped in 20 points and 4 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Beroe's coach felt very confident that he used 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side American-Hungarian point guard Dontay Thomas (187-84, college: La Salle, agency: Octagon Europe) responded with 11 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists and Serbian center Djoko Salic (213-95) scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. Four Beroe and five Sutjeska players scored in double figures. Beroe are looking forward to face Feni Industries (#7) in Kavadarci in the next round. Sutjeska will play at home against Kozuv and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Rather predictable result in Skopje where Kumanovo (3-0) defeated Karpos Sokoli (1-2) 106-101 on Wednesday. Karpos Sokoli trailed by 20 points after 3 quarters before a 44-29 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 101-106 at the end of the game. Kumanovo made 37-of-43 free shots (86.0 percent) during the game, while Karpos Sokoli only scored sixteen points from the stripe. 32 personal fouls committed by Karpos Sokoli helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Serbian power forward Danilo Mijatovic (206-83) stepped up and scored 27 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and forward Marjan Janevski (203-88) chipped in 18 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. At the losing side power forward Bojan Trajkovski (208-88, agency: Mansfield and Associates) responded with 25 points and Croatian forward Zoran Vrkic (203-87) scored 14 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Karpos Sokoli's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. There was a minor upset when Kosovan Peja (1-2) was rolled over on the road by Montenegrin Teodo Tivat (1-2) 104-84 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Teodo Tivat. Peja managed to win second period 28-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Teodo Tivat dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Peja's 38 and made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. Teodo Tivat looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Peja helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Forward Petar Kusovac (195-93, college: S.Centar, agency: AproK Sports Group) stepped up and scored 20 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and guard Milos Djurisic (194-88) chipped in 16 points and 6 assists. The Regular Season in Balkan League just started. The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of FYR Macedonian Kumanovo (0-1) in Sofia on Wednesday night.
