VEF Riga decided to hire Rimas Kurtinaitis (agency: Interperformances ) as their new Head Coach. They agreed on all terms and the contract will be signed during the day.
Rimas Kurtinaitis is the Lithuanian basketball legend. As a professional basketball player he helped them at many international events. Kurtinaitis started his coaching career in Azerbaijan. Rimas Kurtinaitis is the Lithuanian basketball legend. As a professional basketball player he helped them at many international events. Kurtinaitis started his coaching career in Azerbaijan. It was in 2002 and Kurtinaitis was a player and a Head Coach of Gala BC Baku. He stayed there until the end of 2005/06 season. During the summer 2006 Kurtinaitis took over Russian Ural Great Perm. However, he stayed there just few months and in January 2007 moved to Sakalai Vilnius. In December 2007 he left Sakalai and took over Polish ASCO Slask Wroclaw staying there four months, before the team withdrew due to financial reasons. In 2008, Rimas Kurtinaitis was hired by Lietuvos Rytas. He led the team to EuroCup title and Euroleague promotion in his first season. Kurtinaitis was named Eurobasket.com All-Eurocup Co-Coach of the Year and Eurobasket.com All-Lithuanian LKL Coach of the Year. Rytas also was the Lithuanian league champion in 2009. Last season, Rytas won the National Cup and also defended the title in Lithuania. However, the team decided to part ways with Kurtinaitis and to hire Drazen Anzulovic. Rimas Kurtinaitis also was the Head Coach of Azerbaijan National Team and the Assistant Coach of Team Lithuania.

BK Ventspils hired Algirdas Brazys as their new Head Coach. The 48-year old specialist signed a two-year deal with the club.
Most recently Algirdas Brazys was working in Russia with Enisey Krasnoyarsk. That was on season 2008/09. Before Enisey, Brazys spent one year in Estonia with Tartu Ulikool/Rock. Actually, he started the first year as an Assistant, but after just few months was promoted to HC position. In the past, Algirdas Brazys spent three years with Zalgiris Kaunas. He also was their AC from 1996 to 2000. BK Ventspils finished the regular season in Latvia as No.5 with 6-4 record. They met Zemgale in the Quarterfinals eliminating them with 2-0. However, VEF Riga stopped them in the Semis with 3-2. In Baltic League, Ventspils also was eliminated in the Semifinals. Zalgiris was the team who beat them 86-74.

Jerry Johnson (183-G-82, agency: Beo Basket, college: Rider) and Cemal Nalga (208-C-87, agency: Beo Basket) will join Lietuvos Rytas. The players have agreed on terms of contract with the Lithuanian champions.
Cemal Nalga has recently played for ALBA Berlin. The 22-year-old Turkish centre averaged 1.8 points and 1.0 rebound per EuroCup appearance. In German BBL he tallied 3.8 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. Cemal Nalga tipped off the season in Galatasaray [read more]

The players have agreed on terms of contract with the Lithuanian champions. Cemal Nalga has recently played for ALBA Berlin. The 22-year-old Turkish centre averaged 1.8 points and 1.0 rebound per EuroCup appearance. In German BBL he tallied 3.8 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. Cemal Nalga tipped off the season in Galatasaray. There the centre averaged 8.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. Cemal Nalga played for the Turkish U18 and U20 selections. He also made debut for the Turkish NT during the EuroBasket 2009 Qualifying Round and the Mediterranean Games. Jerry Johnson spent the last two seasons in Belgium. He played for Charleroi. Last season the 28-year-old guard tallied 13.2 points, 3.7 assists and 2.2 rebounds per game in D1. The Rider University graduate Jerry Johnson started his pro career in Europe back in 2005. Jerry Johnson used to play for Polpharma, APOEL, Mersin, Auvergne.
