The Second Stage in Baltic League just started. The fans could enjoy quite many interesting games in the last round. The round ended with defeat of the leader and derby games.


Olimpia - Tim-Scuf 92-73

The game was mostly controlled by Olimpia GrGAU. Tim-Scuf was better in fourth quarter 20-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Olimpia GrGAU brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. Russian-Ukrainian center Lyubov Alyoshkina (203-81) fired a double-double by scoring 23 points and 15 rebounds for the winners. Ukrainian forward Anna Pokoiova (188-87) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds. Olimpia GrGAU's coach Aliaksandr Shimkovyak used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Olga Maznichenko (187-91, agency: LBM Management) produced 17 points and 6 rebounds and forward Nataliya Gavryliuk (178-90) added 12 points and 10 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Olimpia GrGAU used an opportunity after Gorizont lost their game and moved up joining them at the top position. Defending Ukrainian champion Tim-Scuf still closes the standings with two games lost. Olimpia GrGAU's next round opponent will be league's leader Gorizont in Minsk and it will be for sure the game of the week.

VICI-Aistes defeated 4th placed Belarusian Minsk-2006 in Kaunas 66-57. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The hosts trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 66-57. VICI-Aistes forced 24 Minsk-2006 turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Vita Kuktiene (186-80) who helped to win the game recording 11 points and 8 rebounds. Belarusian swingman Tatsiana Likhtarovich (179-88, agency: LBM Management) contributed with 13 points for the winners. Power forward Volha Istseliatsova (189-88) answered with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds and Russian-Belarusian guard Zhanna Horodetskaya (180-79) added 13 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Minsk-2006. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Minsk-2006. Minsk-2006 will play next round against strong Lemminkainen trying to get back on the winning streak. VICI-Aistes will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked TTT Riga on the road.

Gorizont - Tim-Scuf 86-75

An interesting game for Belarusian Gorizont (1-0) which hosted in Minsk 4th placed Ukrainian Tim-Scuf (0-2). Gorizont managed to get a 11-point victory 86-75. Gorizont made 26-of-30 free shots (86.7 percent) during the game, while Tim-Scuf only scored nine points from the stripe. It was a very good performance for guard Natalia Anufryienka (174-85, agency: LBM Management) who helped to win the game recording 23 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals (made all of her nine free throws !!!). Forward Nadzeya Nadzezhka (179-87) contributed with 16 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Forward Krystyna Matsko (182-91) answered with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 14 rebounds and guard Yuliya Berezinets (172-90) added 15 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Tim-Scuf. Four Tim-Scuf players scored in double figures. Defending Belarusian champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Olimpia. Defending Ukrainian champion Tim-Scuf still closes the standings with two games lost. Gorizont will face league's second-placed Olimpia GrGAU in Grodno in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week.

Lemminkainen - TTT Riga 60-66

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Lithuanian Lemminkainen (1-1) in Klaipeda. Hosts were defeated by Latvian TTT Riga (1-1) 66-60. It was a key game for the top position in the league as both teams had the same 0-1 record before this meeting. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Lemminkainen won third quarter 13-10. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. TTT Riga forced 24 Lemminkainen turnovers. Swingman Ieva Krastina (175-90, agency: LBM Management) stepped up and scored 15 points and 5 assists for the winners and center Liga Surkusa (194-91) chipped in 11 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. TTT Riga's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the losing side point guard Rita Milieskiene (175-78) responded with 13 points and 6 rebounds and Monika Grigalauskyte (190-92) scored 8 points and 9 rebounds. Defending Latvian champion maintains first place with 1-1 record, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Lemminkainen. TTT Riga will play against league's leader VICI-Aistes in Kaunas in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Lemminkainen will play at home against Minsk-2006 and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

A very close game took place in Kaunas between Lemminkainen and VICI-Aistes. First ranked Lemminkainen (1-1) got a very close victory on the road over 4th placed VICI-Aistes (1-1). Lemminkainen managed to escape with a 2-point win 94-92 in the fight for the first place. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 17-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 94-92. Lemminkainen made 36-of-47 free shots (76.6 percent) during the game. Julita Bungaite (186-87, college: Hawaii) nailed 12 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side and point guard Rita Milieskiene (175-78) accounted for 16 points. Belarusian swingman Tatsiana Likhtarovich (179-88, agency: LBM Management) came up with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists (made all of her seven free throws) and Latvian power forward Aija Putnina (192-88, agency: Josep and Nicolas) added 18 points and 6 rebounds respectively for VICI-Aistes in the defeat.
