Round 3 (Second Stage): Lemminkainen loses the game and top position - Mar 9, 2012

There was a change at the Baltic League leadership position after last games. Round 3 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Lithuanian Lemminkainen (2-2). They were defeated by fourth ranked Latvian TTT Riga (2-3) 74-60 on Wednesday night. The game was mostly controlled by TTT Riga. Lemminkainen managed to win fourth quarter 18-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Lemminkainen to just 7 points in first quarter. TTT Riga forced 20 Lemminkainen turnovers. It was a great evening for swingman Ieva Krastina (175-90, agency: LBM Management) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. Center Liga Surkusa (194-91) helped adding 12 points and 7 rebounds. TTT Riga's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was point guard Gabriele Gutkauskaite (172-90) with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Defending Latvian champion maintains fourth place with 2-3 record. Lemminkainen at the other side dropped to the second position with two games lost. They share it with Minsk-2006. They were replaced at the leadership position by Gorizont. Lemminkainen will play next round against league's leader VICI-Aistes trying to make it back to the top of the standings. TTT Riga will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.

Aleksandra Khomenchuk accounted for 21 points and 12 rebounds. Forward Olga Maznichenko (187-91, agency: LBM Management) came up with 23 points and 9 rebounds for Tim-Scuf in the defeat. Gorizont have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending Belarusian champion maintains first place with 3-0 record. Defending Ukrainian champion Tim-Scuf still closes the standings with three games lost. Gorizont will play against league's second-placed Olimpia GrGAU in Grodno in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Tim-Scuf will play on the road against Berezina-RCOR in Borisovo and hopes to get finally their first victory.



Tim-Scuf - Gorizont 67-92

The game between Top Four teams took place in Kyiv. 4th placed Ukrainian host Tim-Scuf (0-3) was smashed by leader Belarusian Gorizont (3-0) 92-67. The game without a history. Gorizont led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Tim-Scuf's 34. Gorizont had a 30-18 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Tim-Scuf's players. It was an exceptional evening for guard Natalia Anufryienka (174-85, agency: LBM Management) who led the winners and scored 27 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Russian-Ukrainian center Aleksandra Khomenchuk (200-89) accounted for 21 points and 12 rebounds for the winning side. Four Gorizont players scored in double figures. Forward Olga Maznichenko (187-91, agency: LBM Management) came up with 23 points and 9 rebounds and forward Nataliya Gavryliuk (178-90) added 13 points respectively for Tim-Scuf in the defeat. The most exciting game of round 7 in the Baltic League took place in Grodno. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of much higher ranked Ukrainian Interkhim (1-3) to fourth ranked Belarusian Olimpia GrGAU (2-4) 87-84 on Saturday evening.
