There are only two more rounds left in the Second Stage in Baltic League.

The most exciting game of round 5 in the Baltic League took place in Riga. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of second-ranked Belarusian Minsk-2006 (2-3) to third ranked Latvian TTT Riga (3-3) 65-63 in the game for the second place. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The hosts trailed by 12 points after three quarters before their 30-16 charge, which allowed them to win the game. TTT Riga forced 22 Minsk-2006 turnovers. Strangely Minsk-2006 outrebounded TTT Riga 41-28 including a 29-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. 25 personal fouls committed by Minsk-2006 helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Swingman Ieva Krastina (175-90, agency: LBM Management) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points and 7 assists. Forward Dita Rozenberga (181-92) contributed with 15 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Forward Viktoryia Pantsiukh (185-87) answered with 12 points and 7 rebounds for Minsk-2006. Defending Latvian champion moved-up to second place. Minsk-2006 at the other side dropped to the third position with three games lost. They share it with Lemminkainen and Tim-Scuf. TTT Riga will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Minsk-2006 will play at home against the league's leader VICI-Aistes in Kaunas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Berezina-RCOR at the other side still closes the standings with five games lost. Olimpia GrGAU will play against Tim-Scuf (#3) in Kyiv in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Berezina-RCOR will play on the road against the league's leader Gorizont in Minsk and hopes to get finally their first victory.

Olimpia GrGAU dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Berezina-RCOR's 30. Olimpia GrGAU forced 20 Berezina-RCOR turnovers. Russian-Ukrainian center Lyubov Alyoshkina (203-81) stepped up and scored 14 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and American guard Megan Shoniker (175-89, college: Rhode Island, agency: Two Points) chipped in 13 points and 7 rebounds. Five Olimpia GrGAU players scored in double figures. Forward Galina Shylovich (182-91) responded with 9 points and 8 rebounds and forward Yuliya Haponava (184-94) scored 11 points and 6 rebounds. Berezina - Gorizont 68-80

One of the most interesting games of round 5 was a derby match between two teams from Belarus. The game took place in Borisovo where leader Gorizont won against host Berezina-RCOR (0-5) 80-68. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Berezina-RCOR. The game was mostly controlled by Gorizont. Berezina-RCOR managed to win second period 23-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gorizont forced 24 Berezina-RCOR turnovers. Center Maryna Ivashchanka (190-93) nailed 17 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side and guard Natalia Anufryienka (174-85, agency: LBM Management) accounted for 18 points (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). The game without a history. Olimpia GrGAU led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Berezina-RCOR to just 6 points in third quarter. Olimpia GrGAU forced 22 Berezina-RCOR turnovers. It was a great shooting night for Olimpia GrGAU especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 61.5 percentage.
