The Regular Season in Baltic League just started.

Liepaja - Valga 96-66

Liepaja smashed Estonian Valga at home 96-66. The hosts trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 12-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 96-66. Liepaja forced 27 Valga turnovers. Arturs Bricis (196-92) stepped up and scored 18 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners and guard Artis Ate (191-89) chipped in 14 points. Liepaja's coach Guntis Endzels felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side Nigerian-Russian center Aleksey Adediran (204-82, college: Binghamton) responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds and swingman Veljo Vares (200-81) scored 14 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Valga will play next round against Jelgava trying to get back on the winning streak. Liepaja will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.

Rudupis - Nevezis 89-67

Visitors were rolled over by Rudupis (1-0) 89-67. The game was mostly controlled by Rudupis. Nevezis was better in second period 19-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Rudupis forced 20 Nevezis turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Nevezis' players. Guard Arturas Milaknis (195-G-86) nailed 23 points for the winning side and guard Zygimantas Janavicius (192-89, agency: Interperformances) accounted for 12 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Rudupis players scored in double figures. American forward Tony Bishop (201-89, college: Texas St., agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) came up with 21 points and 8 rebounds and guard Sarunas Kulevicius (195-89) added 10 points respectively for Nevezis in the defeat. Nevezis' coach Darius Sirtautas gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Rudupis will play against BC Rakvere (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Nevezis will have a break next round.

Tln Kalev - Barons kvartals 75-77

A very close game took place in Tallinn between Latvian Barons kvartals and Estonian Tln Kalev. Barons kvartals (1-0) got a very close victory on the road over Tln Kalev (0-1). Barons kvartals managed to escape with a 2-point win 77-75 on Tuesday evening. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The guests trailed by 4 points after three quarters before their 18-12 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Point guard Ilmars Bergmanis (184-81) fired 20 points for the winners. Swingman Salvis Metra (195-84) chipped in 19 points. Nigerian forward Ike Okoye (206, college: Boise St.) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 13 rebounds and American-Italian guard Marc Campbell (180-86, college: N.Carolina) added 17 points and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Five Tln Kalev players scored in double figures. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

Jelgava - Tartu Ulikool 62-96

Latvian Jelgava (0-1) was outscored at home by Estonian Tartu Ulikool (1-0) with the biggest margin this round 96-62. The game without a history. Tartu Ulikool led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Tartu Ulikool forced 26 Jelgava turnovers. 25 personal fouls committed by Jelgava helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Silver Leppik (189-83) who helped to win the game recording 20 points and 4 steals. Russian center Ivan Nelyubov (207-88) contributed with 15 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Four Tartu Ulikool players scored in double figures. Latvian guard Sandis Silavs (195-88) answered with 10 points and 5 assists and swingman Edgars Krumins (194-86) added 5 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Jelgava. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Tartu Ulikool will have a break next round. Jelgava will play at home against Valga and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Valmiera/ORDO (LBL) signed 20-year old guard Eduards Hazners (192-97). He played last season at VEF Riga in the LBL. In 14 games he had 6.3ppg and 2.0rpg. Hazners helped them to win the league title despite they ended the regular season at the second place. Hazners also played 11 games in VTB United League where he recorded just 1.0ppg. Anrijs Miska (ex Viten Fuen.) joins Valmiera - 1 month ago
Valmiera/ORDO (LBL) agreed terms with Latvian forward Anrijs Miska (203). He played last season at Viten Getafe Fuenlabrada in Spanish EBA league. In 16 games he had just 2.3ppg and 1.5rpg. He was voted All-European Championships U18 Honorable Mention in 2017. The previous (15-16) season Miska was tested by Real Madrid (Spain) in Spanish league.
