The fans could enjoy quite many interesting games in the last round. The round ended with loss of the undefeated team, derby games and favorites losing the games.

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Latvian Valmiera (2-1) at the home court on Friday night. Hosts were rolled over by Lithuanian Pieno Zvaigzdes (2-0) 100-75. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Valmiera. It was a key game for the top position in the league as both teams had the same 1-0 record before this meeting. The game without a history. Pieno Zvaigzdes led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 22-of-26 free shots (84.6 percent) during the game. American forward Yancy Gates (206-89, college: Cincinnati) orchestrated the victory by scoring 25 points and 9 rebounds. His fellow American import point guard Booker Woodfox (183-86, college: Creighton) contributed with 15 points for the winners. Pieno Zvaigzdes' coach Nerijus Zabarauskas felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Janis Berzins (202-93, agency: Players Group) answered with 14 points and 8 rebounds for Valmiera. Pieno Zvaigzdes keep a position of league leader, which they share with Lietkabelis. Barons kvartals at the other side dropped to the third position with two games lost. BC Rakvere's next round opponent will be Tln Kalev (#6) in Tallinn.
An interesting game for Lithuanian Siauliai (3-1) which hosted in Siauliai second-ranked Kazakhstan Barsy Atyrau (2-3). Second ranked Siauliai had an easy win 89-71. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Barsy Atyrau. Papa Dia orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Siauliai maintains second place with 3-1 record behind leader Pieno Zvaigzdes. Defending Kazakhstan champion Barsy Atyrau dropped to the third position with three games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 5: Ventspils smashed Rapla on the road 93-54. Rudupis destroyed Tln Kalev on its own court 101-53. Ventspils managed to outperform TTU in a road game 78-74. Nevezis rolled over Tln Kalev at home 77-46. Jelgava lost to undefeated TU/Rock on the opponent's court 66-85. Sakalai smashed Tarvas in a home game 89-66.


Siauliai - Naglis Palangos 95-71

One of the most interesting games of round 5 was a derby match between two teams from Lithuania. Second ranked Siauliai outleveled visiting Naglis Palangos (1-2) 95-71. The game was mostly controlled by Siauliai. Naglis Palangos was better in fourth quarter 19-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Siauliai shot 65.0 percent from the field. Siauliai outrebounded Naglis Palangos 38-20 including a 33-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three nailing 12 long-distance shots on high 54.5 percentage. Siauliai players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Naglis Palangos' players. But then BC Rakvere had a 24-15 second period charge getting the lead and Barons kvartals were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 79-87. BC Rakvere forced 22 Barons kvartals turnovers. The best player for the winners was point guard Reimo Tamm (185-84) who scored 21 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists. Latvian swingman Juris Umbrasko (197-79) chipped in 16 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists.
