Barons kvartals - TU/Rock 63-49

Barons kvartals built a solid lead heading into the return leg in their quarterfinal series versus TU/Rock. The Latvian team claimed a 14-point lead after the home game. The game without a history. Barons kvartals led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Latvian forward Maris Gulbis (202-85, agency: Players Group) fired a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. American forward Tyler Cain (203-88, college: S.Dakota) chipped in 8 points and 11 rebounds. Forward Timo Eichfuss (200-88) produced 13 points and 5 rebounds and American point guard Justin Ingram (188-85, college: Toledo, agency: Two Points) added 10 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. TU/Rock's coach Gert Kullamae rotated twelve players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.

Kalev/Cramo - Pieno Zvaigzdes 71-54

Kalev/Cramo knocked down Pieno Zvaigzdes in the first game of the series. The game was mostly controlled by Kalev/Cramo. Pieno Zvaigzdes was better in fourth quarter 16-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Kalev/Cramo dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Pieno Zvaigzdes' 20. Latvian guard Armands Skele (192-83) nailed 10 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winning side and American power forward Gary Wilkinson (205-82, college: Utah St.) accounted for 15 points and 5 rebounds. Four Kalev/Cramo players scored in double figures. Guard Sarunas Vasiliauskas (188-89, agency: Alti Sport) came up with 16 points and American forward Tyrell Biggs (203-86, college: Pittsburgh) added 12 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Pieno Zvaigzdes in the defeat. Pieno Zvaigzdes' coach Mindaugas Lukosius tested eleven players seeing no chance for a win.

Siauliai - Ventspils 81-78

Siauliai eked out a narrow home win over Ventspils in the quarterfinal series opener. Ventspils were trailing by 9 points at halftime but managed to get 2-point lead after three quarters before a 28-23 charge of Siauliai, which allowed them to win the game. They made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. Guard Laurynas Samenas (192-88) stepped up and scored 21 points for the winners and Aurimas Kieza (202-82, college: Hofstra) chipped in 13 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. At the losing side forward Janis Timma (201-92, agency: FCM) responded with 20 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) and American point guard Donald Sims (185-87, college: Appalachian St.) scored 19 points and 6 assists.

Tarvas - Rudupis 72-108

Rudupis are step away from the next stage after they stunned Tarvas in Rakvere. The game without a history. Rudupis led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They shot 69.8 percent from the field and made 21-of-23 charity shots (91.3 percent) during the game. Rudupis outrebounded BC Rakvere 38-15 including a 33-8 advantage in defensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three nailing 13 long-distance shots on high 65.0 percentage. Rudupis players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. BC Rakvere was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Arturas Milaknis (195-86) who helped to win the game recording 20 points and 4 assists. Swingman Gediminas Orelikas (200-90) contributed with 21 points for the winners. point guard Reimo Tamm (185-84) answered with 21 points and American guard Brandis Raley-Ross (188-87, college: S.Carolina) added 18 points in the effort for BC Rakvere. Five Rudupis and four BC Rakvere players scored in double figures. BC Rakvere's coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win.

The 2017/2018 Baltic Basketball League season is just about ready to tip off! Two groups of seven - 14 teams in total - will battle for the crown and represent five countries. Valmiera/ORDO (LBL) signed 20-year old guard Eduards Hazners (192-97). He played last season at VEF Riga in the LBL. In 14 games he had 6.3ppg and 2.0rpg. Hazners helped them to win the league title despite they ended the regular season at the second place. Hazners also played 11 games in VTB United League where he recorded just 1.0ppg. Anrijs Miska (ex Viten Fuen.) joins Valmiera - 30 days ago
Valmiera/ORDO (LBL) agreed terms with Latvian forward Anrijs Miska (203). He played last season at Viten Getafe Fuenlabrada in Spanish EBA league. In 16 games he had just 2.3ppg and 1.5rpg. He was voted Eurobasket.com All-European Championships U18 Honorable Mention in 2017. The previous (15-16) season Miska was tested by Real Madrid (Spain) in Spanish league.
