American Tyler Larson (190-G-91) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for league's leader Barons Riga and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 8. The 25-year old guard had the game-high 31 points adding eight rebounds and three assists for Barons Riga in his team's victory, helping them to beat Liepaja/Triobet (#4, 3-3) 111-106. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. It allowed Barons Riga to jump to the first place in the Baltic League. They would have been even better if they did not have these two lost games earlier in Regular Season. Barons Riga has a very solid 4-2 record, but they cannot be too comfortable about keeping top position. In the team's last game Larson had a remarkable 61.5% from 2-point range. He turned to be Barons Riga's top player in his first season with the team.
The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 30-year old Ukrainian power forward Andriy Agafonov (208-PF-86, agency: AproK Sports Group) of P.Zvaigzdes. Agafonov impressed basketball fans with 27 points and 7 rebounds. It was enough for P.Zvaigzdes to edge slightly lower-ranked Jekabpils (#9, 5-2) in overtime by 1 point 104-103. P.Zvaigzdes' 8th position in the standings has not changed. His team lost just one game this season, while they won 6 matches. Agafonov is well-known by P.Zvaigzdes fans and he already established his position as one of team's most reliable players.
The third best performed player last round was Davis Rozitis (215-C-90) of Liepaja/Triobet (#4). Rozitis scored 22 points and grabbed eighteen rebounds (!!!). Despite Rozitis' great performance Liepaja/Triobet lost 106-111 to #1 ranked Barons Riga. But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates especially in such crucial game. The last thing Liepaja/Triobet needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 3 victories and 3 lost games. Rozitis has a great season in Baltic League. After only 6 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 8.3rpg (5th best). Rozitis attended one of camps at Eurobasket Summer League on his way to pro basketball.
