Lietuvos rytas wins the second SEB BBL tournamen
Lietuvos rytas Vilnius club became a new SEB BBL champion by winning
against their biggest rival Zalgiris Kaunas team 86:74.
Neven Spahija, the head coach of Lietuvos rytas: We heard Siauliai's
fans and they helped us a bit. It's hard to talk right now because i'm
aII wet with champagne. First of aII i want to congratulate my players,
cause we controIIed the tempo 90 percent time of the game. Zalgiris had
some good plays, but we took it over in the rest of the time. They have
won the battle in the paint though. We'II celebrate tonight, but
tomorrow we are going to start our preparation for Lithuanian basketbaII
league's play-offs.
We saw how coach Bagatskis changed that club. However, they did not
surprise us. We saw how Zalgiris played against Panevezys and Kalev and
they appeared pretty much similar today. That's my first title in
Lithuania. I know it wiII be tough, but we hope to win the LKL as weII.
Frederick House, the forward of Lietuvos rytas: The game was extremely
important. We finished our appearance in the Euroleague, but won it aII
here. The job is not done this season yet. We'II have some celebration,
but tomorrow wiII be a new day to work.
Ainars Bagatskis, the head coach of Zalgiris: Before the match i told
the players that we can't let the things away early in a game. It was
clear that they wiII play aggressively. At first we succeeded, but later
we got into a trouble. We commited a lot of turnovers and let them shoot
the baII wide open. When the difference became just 6 points i asked
guys to play simple, but the opponents nailed some three-pointers and we
feII apart once again.
It is how it is, we have a month left and have to get along with each
other. The Americans tried to be competitive and friendly. We lacked one
aggressive player such as Frederick House. Freeman is different, he isn't so aggressive. However, played good today. We need that
competitive nature in a team.
Tanoka Beard had a very good game and did not deserve any criticism. He
was a leader how we were used to see him. Jankunas? To be honest, the
guy is 22 years old and he cannot play weII aII season long. Could you imagine that he had no rest for the past 2 years. Try to experience that
and we'II see how's things with your physical condition. Now we have to
hide somewhere and prepare for the next battles. But fist of aII we have
to advance to the final of the LKL. Siauliai is a very competitive team.
What concerns Darjus Lavrinovic, the situation isn't good at aII. It
seems like he had broken his two fingers. Without him our team wiII play differently.
