Zalgiris celebrated the victory at the BBL Elite Division championship.
They shocked Lietuvos Rytas in front of a sellout crowd at the Vilnius
Siemens Arena. The Kaunas powerhouse used a strong second half to
prevail in this one. Lietuvos Rytas got to the strong start. Led by
Martynas Gecevicius the hosts built an 18:14 advantage at the first
break. Lietuvos Rytas opened a 14-point lead in the second period.
Vidas Ginevicius (193-G-78, agency:
Interperformances) capped the first half with two free throws as
Lietuvos Rytas enjoyed a 46:32 advantage. Zalgiris however closed their
defense after the main break. They limited the home team to 12 points
and cut the deficit at just one point 57:58.
Marcus Brown (193-G-74, agency:
Higher Vision Sports, college:
Murray St.) tipped off the fourth term with a three-pointer to put
Zalgiris in charge. Dainius Salenga and
Tadas Klimavicius (204-F-82, agency:
Interperformances) stretched the gap to as many as 5 points midway
through the last period.
Tadas Klimavicius followed with five more points as the visitors
pulled away for good in this one.
Marcus Brown knocked down 22 points to pace Zalgiris.
Tadas Klimavicius delivered 17 points and 8 rebounds for the
winners. Martynas Gecevicius replied with 20 points for Lietuvos Rytas.
Kenan Bajramovic added 14 points in the losing case.
Norrkoping claim BBL Challenge Cup title

Norrkoping - Rudupis 107:72
Norrkoping Dolphins clinched the BBL Challenge Cup crown. They stormed
past Rudupis to win the Final series on aggregate.
George Gervin (189-G-76, college:
Houston) stepped up with 24 points to pace the Swedish team.
The teams stayed close early in the encounter. But soon the Dolphins
went on the rally that put them ahead by 12 points at the first break
29:17. The hosts quickly opened a 20-point lead in the second period.
The Swedes drove to a comfortable 24-point advantage at halftime.
Rudupis failed to change the complexion of the game after the main
break. Norrkoping continued to dictate the tempo in the third term. They
enlarged the difference to as many as 33 points with ten minutes to go.
Rudupis never got back to life in this one and had to surrender at the
end.
Joakim Kjellbom (213-C/F-79, college:
N.Arizona) knocked down 16 points to pace the Dolphins.
Fred Drains (195-F-71, college:
Kean) and
Oladapo Ayuba (198-F-86, college:
UMKC)
added 13 points apiece for the winners.
Giedrius Jankauskas (206-F/C-81) responded with 24 points for
Rudupis.
Gintautas Vileita (194-G-75, college:
Monmouth) accounted for 11 points in the loss.
