Barons Riga - Kalev/Cramo 77-66

Barons Riga outgunned Kalev/Cramo at home court but could not rescue the series as the Estonian team made it into the next round. The game was mostly controlled by Barons Riga. Kalev/Cramo managed to win fourth quarter 17-9. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Barons Riga forced 25 Kalev/Cramo turnovers. The best player for the winners was Lithuanian forward Denis Krestinin (202-94, agency: BeoBasket) who had a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds. Davis Geks (192-95) chipped in 20 points. Four Barons Riga players scored in double figures. American-Bulgarian power forward Cedric Simmons (206-86, college: N.Carolina St.) produced 18 points and 9 rebounds and Belarusian Vitali Liutych (198-92) added 18 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests.

Valmiera - Vytautas 74-64

Vytautas secured their semifinal appearance despite a narrow road loss to Valmiera. The game was mostly controlled by Valmiera. Vytautas was better in second period 15-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Strangely Vytautas outrebounded Valmiera 40-28 including 29 on the defensive glass. Martins Laksa (200-90) notched 18 points and 6 rebounds to lead the effort and American point guard Damier Pitts (177-89, college: Marshall) supported him with 14 points and 4 assists. Pitts is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Valmiera's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 8 points and 8 rebounds by forward Martynas Linkevicius (196-85, agency: Octagon Europe) did not help to save the game for Vytautas. Forward Tadas Klimavicius (204-82) added 11 points and 7 rebounds for the guests. Four Vytautas players scored in double figures.

Pieno Zvaigzdes rallied past Liepaja/Triobet at home court to sweep the series. The hosts trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 61-44 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. P.Zvaigzdes dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Liepaja/Triobet's 46. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists. 25 personal fouls committed by Liepaja/Triobet helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American point guard Derrick Low (191-86, college: Washington St., agency: Octagon Europe) scored 15 points and 9 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Canadian-Lithuanian point guard Evaldas Zabas (188-88) chipped in 18 points and 5 assists (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) during the contest. P.Zvaigzdes' coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Arturs Ausejs (192-90) responded with 30 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and American guard Malcolm Griffin (193-91, college: Fresno Pacific, agency: Promotex) scored 13 points. Five P.Zvaigzdes and four Liepaja/Triobet players scored in double figures.

Tartu Ulikool stormed past Nevezis in Lithuania and sealed their semifinal appearance. The game without a history. Tartu Ulikool led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Nevezis' 38. Tartu Ulikool players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. Lithuanian center Dominykas Milka (203-92, college: St.Rose, NY) orchestrated the victory by scoring 26 points and 7 rebounds. Janari Joesaar (198-93, college: UTRGV, agency: Three Eye Sports) contributed with 18 points and 5 assists for the winners. Four Tartu Ulikool players scored in double figures. Forward Vaidotas Volkus (203-85, college: Redlands CC) replied with 25 points and 6 rebounds and center Karolis Petrukonis (212-87, college: Clemson) added 11 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Nevezis.

Valmiera/ORDO (LBL) signed 20-year old guard Eduards Hazners (192-97). He played last season at VEF Riga in the LBL. In 14 games he had 6.3ppg and 2.0rpg. Hazners helped them to win the league title despite they ended the regular season at the second place. Hazners also played 11 games in VTB United League where he recorded just 1.0ppg. Valmiera/ORDO (LBL) agreed terms with Latvian forward Anrijs Miska (203). He played last season at Viten Getafe Fuenlabrada in Spanish EBA league. In 16 games he had just 2.3ppg and 1.5rpg.
