Regular Season Round 4: Ashdod - Rishon 80-90

Quite upsetting was Maccabi Ashdod's (#7) home defeat in a game versus eighth ranked Maccabi Rishon 90-80. The game was mostly controlled by Maccabi Rishon. Maccabi Ashdod managed to win third quarter 26-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Maccabi Rishon shot 31 for 48 from the free-throw line, while Maccabi Ashdod only scored eleven points from the stripe. Maccabi Rishon had a 29-16 advantage in offensive rebounds. American guard Marquis Wright (185-95, college: Siena) fired 18 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!) for the winners. International guard Egor Koulechov (196-94, college: Florida) chipped in 20 points and 6 rebounds. American-Mexican point guard Paul Stoll (180-85) produced 18 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists and American Winston Shepard (203-93, college: San Diego St., agency: Slash Sports) added 13 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Five Maccabi Rishon and four Maccabi Ashdod players scored in double figures. Maccabi Ashdod's coach Brad Greenberg let to play eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Maccabi Rishon (2-2) moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Ironi Nahariya and Hapoel B/S. Maccabi Ashdod at the other side dropped to the bottom position with three games lost. They share it with 4 other teams. Maccabi Rishon will meet at home Hapoel Eilat (#9) in the next round. Maccabi Ashdod will play against Ironi Nes-Ziona in Nes Ziyona and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
