U20 Latvia escapes with 67-64 win against U20 Belarus - Aug 17, 2012

U20 LATVIA - U20 BELARUS 67-64

Latvia grabbed its first win at U20 EuroBasket in Debrecin. They outplayed Belarus 67-64 improving to 1-1 record in Group A. Thanks to this victory Latvia is now very close to reach the second stage. Belarus is difficult situation after its second straight loss at this event. Latvia was 58-48 up with 7:28 remaining in the game, but Belarus closed the gap to 66-64 with 1:07 to go. However, Belarus missed a lay-up and connected two unsuccessful shots from behind the arc, while Dukate made one free throw for Latvia for rest of the way. Quarters: 17-21, 16-9, 20-15, 14-19. Latvia got double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds from Dita Rozenberga (181-F-92). Paula Tomsone (193-C-94) had 15 points and 9 rebounds, while Ance Aizsila (175-G-94) added 12 pts to this win. Maryia Papova (186-PF-94) had amazing game at the other side with 22 points and 17 rebounds (valuation 26, MVP). Darya Lipinskaya (180-SG-93) and Maryna Ivashchanka (190-C-93) (6 rebs) scored 13 and 10 points respectively. Latvia will meet Spain in the last day of the Preliminary Round in Debrecin. Belarus will take on Lithuania.

Swingman Maryna Krivitskaya (175-G/F-87) had a great game in the last round for Polotsk (they play in Places 5-8), receiving a Player of the Week award for round 4 (Second Stage). The 29-year old player was the main contributor (21 points, three rebounds and three assists) to her team's victory, helping them to beat Gorizont II (#6, 5-11) 72-58.
