Premier League Round 15: Sozh Gomel beats Rubon in the most crucial game of the week - Jan 12, 2013

An exciting game was played in Gomel. Second ranked Sozh Gomel faced 3rd placed Rubon. Host Sozh Gomel (11-2) smashed guests from Vitebsk (8-5) 94-69. The game without a history. Sozh Gomel led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Rubon to just 6 points in first quarter. Sozh Gomel forced 22 Rubon turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was Ukrainian power forward Sergei Miakinin (206-86) who scored 36 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds. Guard Kiril Sitnik (190-89) chipped in 24 points. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international guard Dmitri Akulich (190-86) who recorded 15 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Sozh Gomel have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain second place with 11-2 record behind leader Grodno-93. Rubon at the other side keeps the third position with five games lost. Sozh Gomel are looking forward to face Svisloch (#6) in Osipovichi in the next round. Rubon will play at home against Tsmoki-Minsk II and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in Mogilev supposed to be also worth to mention about. Sixth ranked Impuls BGUIR (4-9) played at the court of 7th ranked Borisfen (1-12). Impuls BGUIR smashed Borisfen 80-58. It was a good game for Henadziy Zakhar (198-92) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 15 rebounds. Kiril Volodkin contributed with 10 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Forward Vadzim Haidukevich (193-93) answered with 16 points for Borisfen. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Impuls BGUIR moved-up to fifth place. Borisfen lost tenth consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay at the bottom position with 12 games lost. Impuls BGUIR will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Borisfen will play on the road against the league's leader Grodno-93 (#1) to get more than just one victory in their record.

In the last game of round 15 Svisloch was defeated by Tsmoki-Minsk II in a road game 76-67.



Tsmoki-Minsk II - Svisloch 76-67

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 5th ranked Svisloch's (3-10) road loss to fourth ranked Tsmoki-Minsk II (6-7) 67-76. Svisloch was ahead by 11 points after three quarters before a 24-4 charge of Tsmoki-Minsk II, which allowed them to win the game. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Svisloch to just 4 points in fourth quarter. Svisloch was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for Lithuanian forward Ronaldas Rutkauskas (203-92) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 12 rebounds. Forward Evgeni Sugonyako (198-92) contributed with 25 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Ukrainian point guard Oleksandr Dolenko (191-90, agency: New Trend Agency) answered with 12 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists and guard Ilya Sharipov (198-91) added 16 points in the effort for Svisloch. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Tsmoki-Minsk II maintains fourth place with 6-7 record. Svisloch at the other side dropped to the sixth position with ten games lost. Tsmoki-Minsk II will play against higher ranked Rubon (#3) in Vitebsk in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Svisloch will play at home against the league's second-placed Sozh Gomel and hopes to get back on the winning track.
