Vladimir Veremeenko selected the top Belarusian playing abroad in last week's games - Feb 18, 2013

Here is the weekly review of the top performing Belarusian players, who play currently abroad.

   #1. This week's number one is former international forward Vladimir Veremeenko (208-84, currently plays in Eurocup). He led his Russian team Unics Kazan to a victory over the closely-ranked Galatasaray (2-3) 64-57 in the Eurocup in Wednesday night's game. Veremeenko was MVP of the game. He scored 15 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and made 2 blocks in 31 minutes on the court. Unics Kazan (3-2) is placed second in group L. Veremeenko's team will play only one more game in the Eurocup Top 16. And that game will be critical. It's Veremeenko's fifth season with the team. This year he averages: 8.7ppg, 4.5rpg, 1.1apg, 2FGP: 55.1%(38-69) and FT: 66.7% in the 11 games he played so far. Veremeenko has a dual citizenship: Belarusian and Russian. He played for the Belarusian senior national team six years ago.

   #2. Second place goes to an international shooting guard Vitali Liutych (198-92, currently plays in Baltic League). Liutych was the major contributor in Siauliai's victory against the leader TU/Rock (4-1) 91-75 in the Baltic League last Sunday. He scored 13 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. It was the game of the round between two top 2 ranked teams in group H. BC Siauliai (3-2) is placed second. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. They will play only one more game in the Baltic League Top 16. And now that game is very crucial. Liutych has relatively good stats this season: 10.1ppg, 2.7rpg, 2FGP: 58.8%(40-68), 3FGP: 38.2% and FT: 66.7%. He is in the roster of the Belarusian senior national team.

   #3. The Belarusian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international center Artsiom Parakhouski (210-87, college: Radford, currently plays in Turkey). Parakhouski contributed to an Olin Edirne's victory against the league outsider Hacettepe (3-15) 70-62 in the Turkish TBL on Saturday night. He had a double-double by scoring 12 points and getting the same number of rebounds. Parakhouski also added 3 assists and 4 blocks in 32 minutes. Olin Edirne Basketball (4-14) is placed 14th in the TBL. They ended the series of eight consecutive loses. It's Parakhouski's first season with the team. Parakhouski is currently first on the list of best blockers with 1.8bpg. This year his other stats are: 12.2ppg, 6.7rpg, 1.3apg, 2FGP: 65.5%(93-142) and FT: 50.7% in the 18 games. Parakhouski is also a member of the Belarusian senior national team.

   #4. Point guard Dante Stiggers (188-82, college: S.Mississippi, currently plays in Cyprus) contributed to Apoel's victory against the closely-ranked AEK (14-7) 75-62 in the Cypriot Division A in Friday night's game. He scored 13 points, had 7 rebounds and dished 4 assists. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Cytavision Apoel Nicosia (12-9) is placed fourth in the Division A. The Regular Season already ended. Stiggers is currently fifth on the list of best passers and also on the list of most steals (third place). His overall stats this season are: 9.2ppg, 3.3rpg, 3.5apg and 2.1spg. Stiggers is a naturalized American. He is also Belarusian national team player. Stiggers used to play for BK Minsk-2006 in Belarusian league.

International small forward Mikita Meshcharakou (202-88, college: Wake Forest, currently plays in Italy), who plays in the Italian Lega2 (second division) could not help AcegasAps TR (8-10) in their last game. Despite his good performance AcegasAps TR lost 73-86 on the road to the lower-ranked (#12) FCM Ferentino. Meshcharakou scored 13 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 28 minutes. It was AcegasAps TR's fourth consecutive loss in a row. This year Meshcharakou's overall stats are: 8.9ppg and 4.3rpg in the 18 games. He plays currently for the Belarusian national team.

An experienced center Aleh Kojenets (208-77, college: NC-Wilmington, currently plays in Lithuania) contributed to an easy victory against the 14th-ranked Birstono (12-20) crushing them 95-71 in the Lithuanian NKL (second division) on Friday night. Kojenets recorded 16 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Mazeikiai (25-7) is placed first in the NKL. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be important. This season Kojenets has relatively solid stats: 11.8ppg and 4.1rpg. He is a former international player as he played for the Belarusian senior team four years ago.

   #7. Former international guard Maksim Shustau (188-86, currently plays in Russia) was not able to help Sojuz Zaretchny (4-16) in their game against Ryazan (12-8) in the Russian Superleague (second division). Shustau was the second best scorer with 9 points. He also added made 7 passes and 4 steals in 34 minutes. But Sojuz Zaretchny was badly defeated 83-67 at home by the much higher-ranked (#6) Ryazan. It was Sojuz Zaretchny's third consecutive loss in a row. Shustau has reliable stats this year: 11.8ppg, 2.6rpg, 3.9apg and 1.1spg in the eight games. He used to play for the Belarusian national team five years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Belarusian passport but never been selected to any of Belarusian national teams:

   #1. Igor Suhinin, who plays in the Russian Superleague (second division) could not help Planeta-Universitet Ukhta (6-13) to beat Novosybirsk (14-5). Suhinin scored 5 points, had 6 rebounds and dished 6 assists. Planeta-Universitet Ukhta was defeated 95-81 on the road by the much higher-ranked Novosybirsk (#3). It was Planeta-Universitet Ukhta's fifth consecutive loss in a row. Suhinin's total stats this season are: 6.3ppg, 4.7rpg, 3.2apg and 1.5spg.

   #2. Yivgeni Lioutrine (200-C-88, currently plays in Israel) managed to help Elitzur Yavne in a victory against the closely-ranked Elitzur Ramla (11-5) 76-63 in the Israeli National League (second division) on Tuesday night. He scored 5 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 10 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Elitzur Yavne (12-5) is placed fourth in the National League. This year Lioutrine's total stats are: 7.8ppg and 4.1rpg in the 17 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Belarusian and Israeli.

   #3. Experienced Sergey Karpov (200-F-80, currently plays in Russia) was not able to help Sojuz Zaretchny (4-16) in their game against Ryazan (12-8) in the Russian Superleague (second division). Karpov scored 7 points. Sojuz Zaretchny was badly defeated 83-67 at home by the much higher-ranked Ryazan (#6). It was Sojuz Zaretchny's third consecutive loss in a row. Karpov's total stats this season are: 7.0ppg and 2.2rpg. He is another player who holds two passports: Belarusian and Russian.

   #4. Vladi Yeremishin (201-F/C-84, agency: Avi Zilberman, currently plays in Israel) contributed to an easy victory against the league outsider Maccabi K/G (3-14) crushing them 101-75 in the Israeli National League (second division) last Tuesday. Yeremishin scored 6 points and blocked 2 blocks in 17 minutes. Ironi Kfar Hamaccabia Ramat Gan (9-8) is placed seventh in the National League. It was Ironi Ramat Gan's first victory after four consecutive loses. This year Yeremishin's total stats are: 3.1ppg and 2.2rpg in the 16 games. He has both Belarusian and Israeli nationalities. Despite Yeremishin's Belarusian passport, he previously played for the Israeli university national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Belarusian team.

Tsmoki-Minsk claim ninth straight League title - 10 days ago
Tsmoki-Minsk celebrated the ninth consecutive Premier League trophy. They edged Grodno-93 86:79 at home court to complete the sweep of the championship series. Semianiuk finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds to pace the winners. The centre was trumped the MVP. Tsmoki-Minsk recorded a 21:19 lead ten minutes into the game.
