Premier League Round 36: COR-Borisfen beat Grodno-93 in the most crucial game of the week - Mar 26, 2017

There will be only one (last) round of the Regular Season in Premier League.

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Mogilev. First ranked COR-Borisfen faced second-best Grodno-93. Host COR-Borisfen (28-2) defeated guests from Grodno (27-5) 68-58. The game was mostly controlled by COR-Borisfen. Grodno-93 managed to win third quarter 15-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. COR-Borisfen forced 23 Grodno-93 turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was Ukrainian center Maksym Kozlovets (205-90) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds. Lithuanian point guard Vytautas Kamarunas (178-89) chipped in 15 points, 7 assists and 5 steals. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Kiryl Chumakov (197-95) who recorded 17 points and 9 rebounds. Grodno-93's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. COR-Borisfen have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 28-2 record. Grodno-93 at the other side keeps the second place with five games lost. COR-Borisfen are looking forward to face BSEU-GrandPrint (#6) in Minsk in the next round where they are favorite. Grodno-93 will have a break next round.
The game in Grodno supposed to be also worth to mention about. Fourth ranked Tsmoki II (20-12) played at the court of 7th ranked Prinemanye (8-22). Tsmoki II smashed Prinemanye 101-72. It was a good game for forward Maksim Liutych (200-97) who led his team to a victory with 18 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Andrey Stavrovskiy contributed with 15 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Tsmoki II's coach Heorhi Kandrusevich felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Ruslan Kutskevich (202-95) replied with 20 points and 9 rebounds (perfect from the field making all nine shots !!!) for Prinemanye. Tsmoki II maintains fourth position with 20-12 record. Prinemanye at the other side keeps the seventh place with 22 games lost.

Worth to mention a quality performance of Anton Vashkevich who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 12 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was Konstantin Satsuk with 12 points and 6 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Vitebsk have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 21-11 record having five points less than leader COR-Borisfen. GOCOR-Sozh lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom. They share the position with Brest.

In the last game of round 36 Brest was defeated by Impuls BGUIR in Minsk 84-71.

Prinemanye - Tsmoki II 72-101

The game in Grodno supposed to be also worth to mention about. Fourth ranked Tsmoki II (20-12) played at the court of 7th ranked Prinemanye (8-22). Tsmoki II smashed Prinemanye 101-72. The game was mostly controlled by Tsmoki II. Prinemanye was better in second period 27-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Tsmoki II dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Prinemanye's 28. Tsmoki II forced 22 Prinemanye turnovers and had a 29-17 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a good game for forward Maksim Liutych (200-97) who led his team to a victory with 18 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Point guard Andrey Stavrovskiy (185-97) contributed with 15 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Four Tsmoki II players scored in double figures. Tsmoki II's coach Heorhi Kandrusevich felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Ruslan Kutskevich (202-95) replied with 20 points and 9 rebounds (perfect from the field making all nine shots !!!) and point guard Aliaksei Navoichyk (190-1) added 24 points in the effort for Prinemanye. The game with biggest result difference took place in Vitebsk. Local Vitebsk (21-11) outscored 8th ranked GOCOR-Sozh (4-28) 101-60 on Saturday night. The game without a history. Vitebsk led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Vitebsk forced 27 GOCOR-Sozh turnovers and outrebounded them 43-25 including a 19-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. Worth to mention a quality performance of power forward Anton Vashkevich (203-94) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 12 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists and point guard Ivan Aladko (193-95) who added 11 points and 10 assists during the contest. Four Vitebsk players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was guard Konstantin Satsuk (188-0) with 12 points and 6 rebounds and swingman Evgeniy Rybkin (195-96) scored 5 points and 10 assists. Impuls BGUIR - Brest 84-71

There was no surprise in Minsk where 8th ranked Brest (4-28) was defeated by fifth ranked Impuls BGUIR (16-14) 84-71 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Impuls BGUIR. Brest managed to win fourth quarter 15-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Impuls BGUIR looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Kiril Volodkin (190-91) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 5 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and the former international guard Maksim Shustov (188-86) who added 19 points and 9 assists during the contest. Four Impuls BGUIR players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was forward Dmitriy Dmitruk (198-81) with 20 points and 9 rebounds and swingman Pavel Moroz (193-88) scored 10 points and 5 assists. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Impuls BGUIR maintains fifth position with 16-14 record. Brest lost twelfth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the eighth place with 28 games lost. They share the position with GOCOR-Sozh.

COR-Borisfen Mogilev (Premier League) hired 42-year old coach Andrei Krivonos from Tsmoki-Minsk. Krivonos has coached there for the last nine years. He helped them to win the cup. The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others Krivonos was voted Eurobasket.com All-Belarusian League Coach of the Year back in 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2013.
