Maalik Wayns selected the top Belarusian playing abroad in last week's games - Mar 27, 2017

We bring you last week's top performances from Belarusians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is an international point guard Maalik Wayns (185-91, college: Villanova, currently plays in Israel). He could not help Maccabi Rishon (11-13) in their last game. Despite Wayns' very good performance Maccabi Rishon lost 85-94 on the road to the higher-ranked (#4) Hapoel Eilat. He was the top scorer with 23 points. Wayns also added 4 rebounds and dished 7 assists in 37 minutes on the court. It was Maccabi Rishon's fourth consecutive loss in a row. Wayns has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 15.3ppg, 3.4rpg, 4.3apg, 1.5spg, 2FGP: 47.6%, 3FGP: 41.4% and FT: 73.0% in 15 games he played so far. Wayns is a naturalized American. Despite he played previously for the USA U18 national team, Wayns is currently a member of the Belarusian senior national team. Strangely he has never played in Belarus.

   #2. Second place goes to an international shooting guard Vitali Liutych (198-92, currently plays in VTB United League). Liutych led his Estonian team Kalev/Cramo to a victory over one of league's weakest teams Tsmoki-Minsk (4-16) 79-70 in the VTB United League last Monday. He was MVP of the game. Liutych recorded 25 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. BC Kalev/Cramo Tallinn (5-16) is placed 11th in the VTB United League. There are only three games left until the end of the VTB United League Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Liutych has relatively good stats this season: 14.7ppg, 3.7rpg, 2FGP: 58.5%(62-106), 3FGP: 35.6% and FT: 79.7%. Ex-Tsmoki-Minsk player is in the roster of the Belarusian senior national team.

   #3. The Belarusian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international center Artsiom Parakhouski (210-87, college: Radford, currently plays in Euroleague). He was not able to help Unics Kazan (7-21) in their last game. Despite Parakhouski's good performance the bottom-ranked Unics Kazan lost 74-85 in Moscow to the second-ranked CSKA. He recorded 14 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocks in 23 minutes. It was Unics Kazan's 11th consecutive loss in a row. There are only two games left until the end of the Euroleague Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. This year Parakhouski has relatively solid stats: 11.6ppg, 5.2rpg, 1.3bpg, 2FGP: 62.7%(128-204) and FT: 78.1% in 27 games. He is also a member of the Belarusian senior national team.

   #4. Small forward Aliaksandr Pustahvar (202-85, currently plays in Hungary) contributed to an easy victory against the 12th-ranked Jaszberenyi (7-19) 83-66 in the Hungarian A Division in Sunday night's game. Pustahvar scored 13 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and dished 5 assists. Falco KC Szombathely (17-9) is placed fourth in the A Division. The Regular Season already ended. It's Pustahvar's first season with the team. He has reliable stats this year: 12.8ppg, 4.5rpg and 1.5apg. Pustahvar has a dual citizenship: Belarusian and Russian. He is also Belarusian national team player.

An experienced former international forward Vladimir Veremeenko (208-84, currently plays in Euroleague) was not able to secure a victory for Brose Baskets (10-18) in their game against Baskonia (16-12) in the Euroleague. Veremeenko did not have that impressive stats last Tuesday. He scored only one point in 16 minutes. Brose Baskets was crushed 96-71 in Vitoria by the higher-ranked (#7) Baskonia. There are only two games left until the end of the Euroleague Regular Season. So now every game will be important. This year Veremeenko's overall stats are: 2.0ppg and 1.5rpg in 23 games. He is another player who holds two passports: Belarusian and Russian. Veremeenko used to play for the Belarusian national team ten years ago.

Guard Valery Gandlin (192-86, currently plays in Israel) contributed to an Ironi Ramat Gan's victory against the closely-ranked Hapoel Migdal Haemek (10-14) 98-84 in the Israeli National League (second division) on Tuesday night. He scored 13 points and added 5 passes. Ironi Ramat Gan (3-21) closes the standings in the National League. But the situation may improve as they ended a series of thirteen consecutive loses. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be extremely important. Gandlin's stats this season are: 12.4ppg, 2.8rpg and 2.3apg. He is a former international player as he played for the Belarusian senior team three years ago.

   #7. International power forward Maksim Salash (206-96, currently plays in Poland) couldn't help Polfarmex (4-21) in their game against Rosa (15-10) in the Polish PLK. Salash scored 9 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 16 minutes. But Polfarmex lost 65-76 in Radom to the much higher-ranked (#5) Rosa. It was Polfarmex's seventh consecutive loss in a row. This year Salash's total stats are: 4.7ppg and 3.2rpg in 23 games. He is also Belarusian national team player.

   #8. Power forward Denis Vikentsyeu (203-98, currently plays in Latvia) contributed to a Ventspils Augstskola's victory against the fourth-ranked ViA (16-6) 76-67 in the Latvian LBL2 (second division) last Wednesday. Vikentsyeu recorded a double-double by scoring 19 points and getting 13 rebounds. He also added 3 assists and 2 blocks. BK Ventspils Augstskola (14-2) is placed first in Places 13-21 group. This season Vikentsyeu has very high stats. He averages: 15.3ppg, 10.7rpg, 2.4apg and 1.6spg. Vikentsyeu plays currently for the Belarusian U18 national team.

   #9. U18 international guard Vlad Mikulskiy (192-98, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Denis Vikentsyeu and both played together in the last Latvian LBL2 game. Mikulskiy was the major contributor in a Ventspils Augstskola's victory against the fourth-ranked ViA (16-6) 76-67. He recorded 19 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals in 31 minutes. Mikulskiy's stats this year are: 14.0ppg, 5.9rpg, 3.4apg and 2.7spg in 21 games. He is also in the roster of the Belarusian U18 national team.

   #1. Vladislav Solopa (202-PF-95, currently plays in Romania). Solopa could not help Craiova (6-16) to beat Targu Mures (10-12). He recorded 5 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. The third-placed Craiova (6-16) was defeated 97-92 at home by the leading Targu Mures in the Places 7-10 group. There are only two games left until the end of the Second Stage. Solopa has averaged so far 3.4ppg and 2.5rpg. He has a dual citizenship: Belarusian and Moldovan.   

Coach Andrei Krivonos joins COR-Borisfen - 19 hours ago
COR-Borisfen Mogilev (Premier League) hired 42-year old coach Andrei Krivonos from Tsmoki-Minsk. Krivonos has coached there for the last nine years. He helped them to win the cup. The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others Krivonos was voted All-Belarusian League Coach of the Year back in 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2013. Xuven Cambados (LEB Silver) landed 26-year old Belarusian center Vladzimir Krysevich (209-110kg-91). He played most recently at BSEU-GrandPrint in Belarusian Premier League. In two games he averaged 6.5ppg and 6.0rpg last season. Krysevich also played that season for Galitos-Barreiro in Portuguese LPB where in 14 games he had 3.0ppg and 2.1rpg.
