Belgian Cup -
Apr 29, 2010
This past weekend Base Oostende won its 13th
Belgian Cup. In Liege they beat their archrival Spirou Charleroi 96-75.
Charleroi and Oostende won the past 2 cups.
In front of over 4000 fans Charleroi took off the best and took a 10 pt
lead at 24-14 thanks to Justin Hamilton and Brent Wright (formerly
Oostende). Oostende fought back to 30-30 with baskets by Bracey Wright
and newcomer Darrell Mitchell who scored 7 pts in a row. A 3pt shot by
Eddie Gill gave Oostende a 3 pt lead at the half 44-47.
Charleroi crumbled in the 3rd quarter and thanks to Matt Lojeski and a
hard working Dragisa Dragisa Drobnjak closed out the quarter with a
56-73 lead.
The lead went up to 20 pts at 63-83 and Oostende cruised to it first
title of the season.
Dragisa Drobnjak was MVP of the game with 21 pts and 9 rebs.
The win marks the first cup for recently appointed head-coach Jean-Marc
Jaumin who had already won 3 as a player.
JM Jaumin told Eurobasket that his team reacted well when Charleroi took
a 10 pt lead in the first quarter. Once they took the lead he continues
my team played at european level, with excellent defense fastbreaks and
3 pt shots from all over the court. He said they deserved to win the cup
and are not setting their sights on winning the championship.
Liege opened their Belgian season in style. They celebrated the first
Supercup title since 2004 rallying past Charleroi.

adjusted and trailed by only 4 points at the first break 17:21. The
breakthrough happened in the second term. Liege went on a 26:12 run to
shock Charleroi. Liege rolled to a 10-point lead at halftime. Liege
continued to dominate after the main break. The team opened a 16-point
advantage heading into the fourth stanza. The reigning champions could
not pick up the slack. They fired 21 points in the fourth term but as
