Oostende wins the championship title in thriller - Jun 8, 2012

Finals, Game 5: Oostende - Spirou 75-74 OT (3-2)

For the first time in Belgian league history the title game went to overtime. Teams were tied at 70-70 after 40 minutes of play and winner is decided in OT. Visitors had 72-74 lead and a chance to reach plus 4, but Tornike Shengelia (207-F-91) missed and Matt Lojeski (198-G-85, college: Hawaii) drained a triple at the other side for 75-74. That was the final score of the game and Oostende won its first championship title since 2007. Last four titles belonged to Charleroi.
Base Oostende made 25-of-27 free shots (92.6 percent) during the game. 26 personal fouls committed by Spirou Charleroi helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American players dominated the game. Guard Matt Lojeski saved the victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds. Forward Kennedy Winston (198-84, college: Alabama) contributed with 14 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Base Oostende's coach Dario Gjergja used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Guard Demond Mallet (186-78, college: McNeese St., agency: Higher Vision Sports) answered with 19 points and 4 assists and guard Christopher Hill (191-83, college: Michigan St.) added 12 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Spirou Charleroi.
Oostende was the regular season champion in Belgium with 23-9 record. They eliminated Mons-Hainaut with perfect 2-0 in the Semifinals.

Generali Okapi Aalstar - Port of Antwerp Giants 96-89 OT

Generali Okapi Aalstar is the 2012 Cup winner in Belgium. They outplayed Port of Antwerp Giants 96-89 in the Big Final, which was held yesterday at Lotto Arena in Antwerp. It was a heartbreaking thriller and Aalstar needed an overtime to take the trophy. Kevin Kruger (186-G-83, college: UNLV) was a key player in victory with 31 points (MVP). Christopher Young (206-F/C-79, agency: Court Side, college: Michigan) secured a great help with double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Christopher Copeland (203-F-84, college: Colorado) added 16 points and 8 rebs. Nate Fox (206-F/C-77, agency: Pro One Sports, college: Maine) helped his team with 12 points. In the loosing squad, Timothy Black (178-PG-81, agency: Limelight Hoops, college: Barton, NC) scored 19 points Darnell Wilson (198-F-85, agency: Court Side, college: Canisius) had 18 pts, plus 7 rebounds. Salah Mejri (216-C-86) registered double-double of 16 points and 11 rebs. Aalstar made impressive 24-10 in the last quarter, including Kevin Krugers basket which sent the game to OT. Aalstar eliminated Leuven Bears in the Semifinals. In the QFinals they knocked down BBC Kangoeroes.
