D1 Round 21: No surprise as #1 Dexia Namur defeats Tulikivi - Mar 5, 2012

D1 top team - Dexia Namur (19-1) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they crushed twelfth ranked Tulikivi (3-18) 79-41. The game without a history. Dexia Namur led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Tulikivi to just 6 points in third quarter. The former international center Laurence VanMalderen (192-81, agency: LBM Management) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and DR Congolese forward Chanel Mokango (196-88, college: Mississippi St.) chipped in 11 points and 9 rebounds. Dexia Namur's coach Daniel Goethals felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was center Eline Verbeest (186-86) with 14 points and 5 rebounds. Dexia Namur maintains first place with 19-1 record. Tulikivi lost sixth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 18 games lost. Dexia Namur are looking forward to face Sint Kateline Waver (#5) in Sint Katelijne in the next round. Tulikivi will play on the road against Basket Groot (#11) in Willebroek and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Point Chaud. New Caledonian forward Soana Lucet (186-87, college: Arizona) nailed a double-double by scoring 22 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists for the winning side and Abi Olajuwon accounted for 20 points and 10 rebounds. American forward Mariesa Greene (183-87, college: Barry) came up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 15 rebounds for Point Chaud in the defeat. Castors Braine have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Spirou Monceau. Point Chaud at the other side keeps the sixth position with nine games lost. Castors Braine will play against higher ranked Declercq Stortbeton (#4) in Waregem in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Point Chaud will play at home against Houthalen and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 21: Sint Katelijne was destroyed by Waregem on the opponent's court 82-60. Spirou Monceau was outscored by Blue Cats in a home game 54-84. Willebroek recorded a loss to Houthalen on the road 59-47.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 25 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists by Kayla Tetschlag of Waregem.
